Recently our school community came together to acknowledge Reconciliation Week through a meaningful assembly. We were honoured to welcome guest speaker Uncle Tony Perkins, a special performance by Gloria Mercy from the Jalay Jalay Dance Troupe, and the presence of the Jagun Elders. The event was a fantastic success, with overwhelmingly positive feedback and a strong sense of respect, understanding, and reconciliation shared across our school community.

The North Coast Rugby League Semi-Final in Week 7 produced one of the most memorable matches. Orara High School defeated Hastings Secondary College 21-20 in a thrilling contest. The boys faced a significant challenge, trailing 16-4 at half-time but showed tremendous resilience and determination to fight their way back into the game.
With just 20 seconds remaining and the scores locked at 20-20, Orara slotted a one-point field goal to claim a dramatic victory. The comeback was made even more remarkable by the fact that the team had no interchange players available for the match, meaning every player remained on the field with little opportunity for rest.
Full credit must go to the boys for keeping their composure under pressure, working tirelessly for one another and never giving up. Their teamwork, resilience and commitment to each other were outstanding and are qualities they should be extremely proud of. That's the Orara Way!

On Air at CHYFM!
Congratulations to Orara High School students Andrew, Ellsie, Vinnie and Atahlia, who recently completed a Radio Broadcasting Training Course at CHYFM 104.1. Throughout the course, students gained valuable hands-on experience in broadcasting, presenting, operating studio equipment, interviewing, communication and teamwork. They also explored the many career opportunities available within the growing media and broadcasting industry. Adding to the excitement, NBN News visited CHYFM to film a feature story on the program and our students' involvement. Be sure to tune in to NBN News tonight at 6:00pm to catch the story! A huge thank you to the team at CHYFM 104.1 for providing such an engaging and authentic industry experience, and to Orara High School Careers Adviser, Mrs Francis, for helping create this fantastic opportunity for students to explore careers in media and broadcasting.

The Orara High School Girls Volleyball Team recently competed in their North Coast Semi-Final against the consistently strong Wauchope High School.
The opening stages of the first set suggested it would be a closely contested match. However, midway through the set, Wauchope demonstrated why they have been regular North Coast champions, taking control of the game. A few uncharacteristic passing errors from our girls allowed Wauchope to build momentum and secure the advantage.
In the second set, Orara was again slow to find its rhythm and unfortunately fell behind. Despite this, the girls remained positive and confident they could mount a comeback.
In the must-win third set, our passing improved dramatically, and the team pushed Wauchope all the way. At 22–22, a remarkable scramble by Wauchope kept the rally alive in what many of the Orara girls thought was a winning point. Had that rally gone the other way, the outcome may have been very different.
Congratulations to all the players involved. The girls competed exceptionally well, showed great resilience in the face of challenges, and represented Orara High School with pride. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and achievement in reaching the North Coast Semi-Final.
Well done, girls!
