Congratulations to two exceptional Western Australians 🙌

The King's Birthday Honours were awarded on Monday, recognising distinguished service. WA’s own dedicated Australian Fire Service Medal recipients are below.

🏅 Nigel Elliott

Becoming a volunteer firefighter in 1986, Nigel then did a stint in the Royal Australian Air Force, before joining the Career Fire and Rescue Service in 1997. Over the years, he's responded to significant incidents like the 2017 Jandabup Trench Rescue, 2023 Kimberley Floods and major bushfire deployments. Nigel is currently the District Officer for the East Kimberley, leading emergency responses across vast and remote terrain.

🏅 Colin James

Spending nearly five decades as a volunteer firefighter with Darlington Bush Fire Brigade, Colin has extensive frontline experience including at both regional and state levels. From a deployment to the 2019 - 2020 Black Summer bushfires, through to supporting initiatives with the Mundaring Emergency Services Centre and Darlington Bushfire Ready group, he showcases his unwavering commitment every day.
