A couple of nice firewood trees across Cobden-Sth Ecklin Rd at 2am this morning. They were called in by a milk tanker driver. We had him on his way in no time 🧡

We were called to a road crash at Chappell Vale soon after midday. Both drivers had self extricated by the time we arrived and were attended to by AV. Many thanks to Camperdown Unit for always having our backs and dispatching to support us on scene 🧡

Last night we had the pleasure of seeing John Brewer presented with recognition for 45 years of service to the Cobden SES. His dedication to the running of our unit, and the community it serves, is as strong today as it was 45 years ago. Well done, JB! We’d be lost without you 🧡

🚨 JOINT TRAINING NIGHT WITH COBDEN UNIT 🚨

A bit of a schedule change for us this week! Instead of our usual night, our crew headed down to Cobden tonight for a joint training exercise with the Cobden Unit.

Tonight’s scenario focused on stabilizing and rescuing a person trapped under a heavy object. To safely execute the lift, we split into teams to run through heavy lifting and cribbing stabilization techniques. One team put the Porta Power through its paces, while the other worked with the combi tool and foot hydraulic pump to maintain progress and safety throughout the lift. Joint scenarios like this are vital for keeping our technical rescue skills sharp and ensuring seamless teamwork when responding to complex incidents across the district.

We were also pleased to welcome Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan MP and the Western District Newspaper to the unit tonight. It was a great opportunity to demonstrate our operational equipment in action and sit down with Richard to discuss some of the challenges our volunteers face when responding to jobs across the region, along with a few other local operational things.

A big thank you to the SES Cobden Unit crew for hosting a great night, and to Richard for taking the time to visit and speak with our volunteers!

Great excitement at the unit, as we anticipate the arrival of our new Rescue truck! This morning the old truck was taken away and replaced with a fully kitted out VICSES loan truck for a couple of weeks until ours is ready 🧡

Our Rescue truck is always wholly State owned, whereas our Support vehicle (4WD) is Unit owned and funded by government grants and our own savings. Any extra tools and equipment purchased with money donated to the unit has been removed from the old rescue truck and will be reinstated into our new truck when it arrives 🧡

We continue to be on duty 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year 🧡
