On behalf of Closeburn Brigade, we share our deep sadness at the passing of First Officer John Blake of Clear Mountain Rural Fire Brigade.

John was a firefighter who served with quiet strength, steady leadership and genuine care for others. He was the kind of officer people trusted. He led by example, treated people fairly, and always carried himself with honesty and humility.

John gave a great deal to his brigade and to his community. It was about turning up, doing the work, and standing beside his crew when it mattered. That is how many of us will remember him.

He was respected not only for the role he held, but for the person he was. Kind, dependable and decent. John made a lasting impact on those who served with him and those who had the privilege of knowing him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Kerri and the Blake family, and to all members who served alongside him over the years.

Rest easy, John. Thank you for your service. You will be remembered with great respect.

It’s Volunteer Week, so we thought we’d explain why we wear funny hats, work odd hours and do it all for no pay.

Simple really. Life is about what you give, not what you get.

Like volunteers in every corner of the community, we show up because we can help. The funny hats are just a bonus; we reckon they suit us.

We’re here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, because volunteering is about service, giving back and being there when it matters.

We’re not superheroes, we’re ordinary people with day jobs, chasing the kids to school, too much housework, bad jokes and FIRECALLS that always seem to go off when you sit down for a drink with mates.

As a wise person said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

This week, please say thank you to every volunteer. From the amazing people at Meals on Wheels, to the support at weekend sports games, and so many more, we’re grateful for all of you, even if your uniform is less stylish than ours.”

How sharp are your eyes?

We’ve hidden 7 differences in bushfire readiness between these two properties. Can you find them all?

Have a close look, then post your 7 answers in the comments. No cheating by reading other replies first. We’ll share the full answers tomorrow.

It’s a bit of fun, but the message is real. Small things like clear gutters and short grass can make a difference when fire season returns.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Closeburn Brigade.

Today we celebrate the mums, grandmothers, step-mums, carers and mother figures who are part of our brigade and our community.

The photo shares just some of our wonderful brigade mums. We are proud to recognise the women who give so much to their families and in service to others.

Thank you for your care, strength and support. We hope you have a safe, happy and well-deserved Mother’s Day.

Red or yellow truck, what’s the difference?

We get asked this a lot. Both are emergency vehicles from the same government department, but each has a different role. This quick read explains how they work together to protect you, your property and the community.

Uniforms and truck colours may differ, but every part of the Queensland Fire Department works together.

Rain’s been welcome. The ground is damp. Creeks are up. Everything feels green again.

That does not mean fire risk disappears.

Good rain can lead to fast growth in grass and scrub. When conditions dry out, that growth can become fuel.

Now is a good time to clean up around your home, check access, and start thinking ahead for the next dry spell.

Fire safety is not just for hot days. It starts well before them.

Hazard Alert.

Thanks to a vigilant community member, another oil spill has been identified on Cedar Creek Road. The spill extends outbound from Morrison Road towards Gordons Road. These are really dangerous in the wet.

A City of Moreton Bay clean-up crew is on the way.

Please use caution if you are travelling through the area. Slow down and drive according to the conditions.

You may notice more smoke across the area at this time of year.

That is often because landholders and agencies are carrying out planned burns when conditions are suitable. These burns help reduce fuel loads and lower bushfire risk ahead of the fire season.

We know smoke can be frustrating. That is why we will always publish information about local burns when we can.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information for any location in Queensland, check the Queensland Fire Department Current Incidents page:

Please take care on the roads in smoky conditions and look out for firefighters working in the area.

A road traffic crash occurred on Mount Samson Road in the Big Dipper area.

There is also a large oil spill in the area. At this stage, it is not known whether the two incidents are connected.

Please use caution if you are travelling through the area. Slow down and drive to the conditions.

Please direct message us via Facebook if we can offer help or assistance.
