Breaking Recycling News
CVW place ban on ‘dead cats’ in recycling bins.

In an unfortunate turn of events last Tuesday, it was discovered that not all dead cats are suitable for recycling. It was approximately 1:30pm when a cat was found on the CVW recycling sorting line. Immediately, a feline resuscitation unit was called, and extensive first aid was administered on site. Sadly, the cat was declared deceased at 2:13pm.
Later the coroner’s report provided minor comfort for the saddened sorting line workers, as his investigation revealed the cat was dead at least 2 days before being placed in the recycling bin.
When the cats former owner was interviewed, she stated that she was “shocked that Mr. Fluffles* was not suitable for recycling!”. She further commented “I thought that Mr. Fluffles had only used 3 of his 9 lives.”
In her defence the coroner noted that this is a common misconception. His report to CVW management noted in part, ‘that it can be very difficult to determine how many lives your cat has actually used and therefore almost impossible to tell if recycling is the best option for your cat’.
After careful consideration of the coroner’s report, extensive counselling, and an internal safety and procedure audit, CVW management has concluded that the best course of action going forward is to ban all dead cats from kerbside recycling bins.
In his press statement, CVW manager Mr. Zappone said “We have the utmost respect for people’s individual belief systems, but after examining the traumatic event that took place here last Tuesday, it would be irresponsible for us not to learn from and implement change going forward. Kerbside Bins are not designed to facilitate recycling of dead cats. Kerbside bins are not designed for recycling of live cats either! Your local pet shop or vet would be a much better option. We understand this ban may be difficult to adjust to at first, but we are confident that when it comes to recycling, we are all in this together and are happy to be responsible towards making a cleaner future.”
