CGVC Volunteer Award
This year we are again seeking nominations for the newly created CGVC Volunteer Award.
The Clare & Gilbert Valleys area is full of amazing volunteers, who generously donate their time and efforts to contribute to our community. This award aims to recognise the invaluable work that these volunteers do. The winner will be recognised at the Australia Day event in January 2027, and then be included as an applicant for the South Australian Volunteers Awards.
Nominations are open to individuals who volunteer within the Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council area. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Nomination forms can be downloaded here or ask for a hard copy from our offices. Nominations to be emailed to [email protected] or hard copies to 4 Gleeson Street, Clare by 5.00pm Friday 20 November 2026.

Australia Day Awards – Who Inspires YOU?
So many people deserve to be nominated, but they can only be nominated by YOU!
Who do you know in your community who inspires others and who has enabled your community to be stronger because of their tireless efforts?
Who do you know who has achieved extraordinary things and who deserves recognition?
The Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council asks you all to consider who you know in your community who deserves to be recognised for what they do to make your town or region a better place to live. Someone who has put in tireless work without recognition and who makes a difference.
Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as: education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sports, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.
We are looking for nominations for people with a passion for what they do and who often work in the background.
Citizen of the Year – someone making an extraordinary contribution to the community and may recognise outstanding service over a number of years.
Young Citizen of the Year – A young emerging leader who is making a real difference in their community. (under 30 years on January 26, 2027).
Community Event of the Year – to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding event for their community.
Award for Active Citizenship – A person or a group delivering outstanding work on an event or project for the community during the past calendar year.
The nomination process is simple – you can fill in a form online here or ask for a hard copy from our offices.
Nominations close 20 November 2026.

Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS

Mount Lofty Ranges, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of Flinders and Murraylands districts.

Issued at 9:08 am CST on Friday 4 September 2026

Damaging winds possible for parts of southeast SA from early Saturday morning.

Weather Situation: A strong cold front is expected to approach southeastern SA tonight and continue to move east during Saturday morning. Strong northwesterly winds are expected to develop ahead of the system tonight, shifting westerly behind the front around sunrise.

For KANGAROO ISLAND and parts of the SOUTHEAST: DAMAGING WIND GUSTS with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible from early Saturday morning, most likely in showers and thunderstorms. DAMAGING WINDS are likely to contract to the Lower South East by midday and ease by the late afternoon.

For MOUNT LOFTY and FLINDERS RANGES: DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely from early Saturday morning, easing during the late afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Mount Gambier, Clare, Murray Bridge, Kingscote, Naracoorte and Keith.

Safety advice
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

Check https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm Australian Central Standard Time Friday.
