Former Cr Gretel Wilkes- City of Onkaparinga ๐Ÿ›ถ Living local, staying true & always paddling the communities canoe! Hi there! Sincerely,

Gretel Wilkes๐Ÿ˜Š

Welcome to my page recognising, celebrating, and informing local residents about community matters. About me: I am a hard-working elected City of Onkaparinga Councillor that represents the one and only Mid Coast Ward! Always feel free to approach me with your questions and queries (email at [email protected] suits best) and I will listen to your voice and action your concerns no

matter how big or small. I respect the environment, the traditional owners of our lands and believe every person and business deserves a voice. I am raising four young children with my partner Ross, and we are often out and about enjoying the beautiful Mid Coast Ward! The posts on this page are my personal ones and are not a representation of the City of Onkaparinga Council. I will reserve the right to remove or hide unnecessary, rude, misleading, hurtful, unauthorised or offensive comments if they are placed on the comment section for my posts. In opposition to the above statement, I welcome constructive, beneficial, informative, thoughtful and practical advice or comments on my page- the more the merrier! Lastly, thanks for stopping by and checking out my page- I truly love our community and will work tirelessly to figure out what the community wants so I can play whatever role is needed to deliver a stronger future.

I've resigned community.
Its been an amazing three and three quarters years but the time has come to step away from the role that showed how everyday humans can achieve amazing progress in the community to an overwhelming, unmanageable environment.

It's difficult to process how it ended and even sadder that trying to support communities voices, can quite simply, just become to trivial.

Right now, my heart is heavy and it's going to take time to heal. I hold my head high and loosely commit to sharing the details- all good, bad and unpleasant when the time comes.

Until we meet again and just quickly adding my 2 cents, I will say... I think kindness is free so why not share it!
Staying true to yourself can be painful but when something starts taking your essence, it takes smarts to notice why and courage to call it out.
If you try ripping the spiral apart, go for it, but when you can no longer fight, acknowledge this, recheck your morals and act if you need; even if that means stepping away from something you love.
At the end of the day you are you and it is important to be the best person you can be, especially for yourself.

Lastly, please know I have truly loved representing the community but now it's not the right environment to pursue the dream.

Big words, big feels and a sad day for me.

Until we meet again,

Gretel ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿ’

P.s. I hope this photos shows I'll be okay and also reminds me of the long debates and opposing views in the chamber is healthy. When elected members have opposing view, all sides should be heard and the majority normally wins overtime. With this project, it took the right people to start, and with hard work, millions of dollars and persistence, the community have benefited greatly.

Leave update with a mention of some current projects!

Edit: While I mention the Onkaparinga Sports Forum in my video, this is wrong and it's the 'Onkaparinga Clubs Forum'. The Forum aims to represent all Onkaparinga clubs, not just sports clubs!

People Power!

When people reach out, I promised from day one that I would try my best to listen- no matter how small or complex their issue.

So, as E-bike and E-scooters queries began to grow, it became clear that this matter required action,, and subsequently a formal motion, to support the communities voices from all views.

I want to sincerely thank the members of our community who took the time to reach out, share their stories, write and present deputations to the February Council meeting, push through sickness to contribute, and write ongoing comments about this important conversation.

The solutions have not been established yet, but Sunrise covered this council's outcome four times in one days, people have reached out for radio interviews and several newpaper articles have been written.

So, as I've stated before, this community-driven motion has never been about banning e-bikes or e-scooters. It has always been about acknowledging all voices, bringing key stakeholders together, and fostering respectful, solution-focused dialogue to achieve balanced outcomes for everyone.

While the motion's aim is beginning to take shape, it has already starting conversations with constructive discussions with the relevant authorities.

Attached is the council's write up for their publication and below, in the comments, I have attached the carried motion ๐Ÿ‘‡

The council will advocate for stronger state regulation of electric bikes and personal mobility devices (PMDs), following growing community concern about safety.

Today celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Pride March in the South!

Community members, family, friends and allies both young and old, were invited to attend the free event, where we all marched from Market Square to Rotary Park.

The park festivities included stalls, entertainment and small businesses catered for all ages. The organisers of the Southern Pride March and Family Fun Day outdid themselves yet again, promoting inclusion, diversity and unity within our community ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ
