What a day we had at Childers Read to Me. Not only were people dressed up, reading stations decorated but we did have a friendly Python and possum visit us in the streets. Thank you to everyone who made this event successful, the committee, volunteer readers, high school students, schools, early years services, shops and local businesses, BRC staff and Childers community. THANK YOU :)

It was one for the books as the Childers community came together to celebrate a decade of Read to Me Day yesterday.

R U Ok? Check in with your loved ones, family, friends and work colleagues. Start a meaningful conversation. R U Ok? ANY Day encourages us to notice changes in friends, family or colleagues and start a conversation whenever it feels necessary. Not sure what to do?
Ask โ€“ Choose an appropriate time and mention the specific change you noticed.
Listen โ€“ Give the person space to talk without rushing to fix the problem.
Encourage action โ€“ Suggest seeking professional help or support if needed.
Check in โ€“ Follow up later to show ongoing care.
Even a simple question can have a profound impact: research shows that 9 in 10 people who are asked โ€œAre you OK?โ€ feel grateful, cared for, and supported, while one in four people hesitate to ask despite noticing someone struggling. To find out more, come down to Millinium Park at 11.30am. The Neighbourhood Centre and Isis District High School Students will be there with cupcakes and information to support the conversation.
