It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that we would like to let you know that the Childers Heritage Gift Shop & Post Office will be changing hands on Thursday 28th July 2022. Over the 28.5yrs we have been the Australia Post Licensees in Childers, one of the most meaningful and rewarding things is to have worked with so many amazing staff. From Hazel Carruthers (who was brave enough to work for us when we were very green) and all the school-based juniors (many of whom have gone on to amazing careers around the world) right through to the wonderful team we have today. So many great people! To all our past and present staff – Your loyalty, hard work, honesty and commitment to providing the best service possible has been outstanding – one that has no gone unnoticed by Australia Post as well. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We would also like to say a big thankyou to the Childers community. People say that working with the public is difficult and of course that can be true sometimes. However, we have to say that by and large, that has not been our experience. Childers is a lovely, generous and accepting community. We have loved trying to give our customers the best possible experience in our shop, having a good laugh with them (and the odd cry too), sharing a joke and generally all belonging to the same community. Thank you Childers for having us as part of your community. Finally, we’d like to say thank you also to our many customers from away – those who travel up and down the Bruce Hwy and always try to drop in. We will miss seeing you. BUT you are not getting rid of us completely. We are staying in Childers (the best place to live!). No doubt we will catch up down the street somewhere (maybe even in the Post Office).

So, you maybe wondering who the new owner is? Well her name is Shirley and from the first time I met her I knew she was a very lovely and kind person. Having spent some time with her I realised that she is very intelligent as well. When you call in the Post Office please give her a big warm Childers welcome. Morning Childers Folk. So due to the major flood event at Gympie and elsewhere there will be NO MAIL TODAY. Nothing coming and nothing going. The Post Office will be open normal hours. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the floods. 🙏🏻😞
