Thanks so very much to all who enjoyed our 5th Childers Heritage Day!!! It was an awesome Day!!! A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all the wonderful volunteers from the Isis District Historical Society and others who gave their time freely today!!! A HUGE THANK YOU also goes out to all our Participants, Sponsors and Supporters. We couldn't have done this without you!!! Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers for tomorrow!!!

Good Morning and Happy Heritage Day!!! The Sun is Shining, the Birds are Singing, the Air is Crisp.!!! The Bacon and Egg Rolls will be soon be sizzling away at the Apple Tree Creek Markets with 108 stalls today. Then it's off to Chill in Childers. Where will we start? Brekkie at the Feddie from 8!!! The Federal Hotel Childers Qld. Maybe Damper and a sausage sizzle at the Childers Historical Complex in Taylor Street. It all kicks off there and across Childers at 9. Be sure to drop into the C.W.A. in Crescent Street for a delicious devonshire tea and view part of the old Apple Tree Creek School. Firehouse Potters in the Old Childers Fire Brigade building - fancy a one-of-a-kind pottery piece? Christ Church Anglican and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches will showcase patchwork quilts. Lots of horses on show today - begin with the 5th Light Horse Troop at the Isis R.S.L. , followed by Bluebell and Saxon our local Clydesdale's, the Great War Living History Group and finally see if you find 'Alwyn' our resident horse at the Historical Complex!!! Don's forget a tour of the upstairs at the Federal Hotel. Bring along the littlies for the running races after the Childers State School String Orchestra play a few tunes in the Rotunda at 9.30!!Listen out for the Bundaberg Caledonian Pipe Band in the main street and for Uke and Me after 10.30 at the Complex. The Grand Hotel Childers and the Feddie will be serving a Heritage Style lunch menu!!! Lots more to see and do - Refer to the Programme!!!

It is with regret and disappointment that I announce that Dan Davie our 2-times World Champion Blacksmith will not be joining us tomorrow. He has been hospitalized with a serious illness. We have sent our Best Wishes for Positive Outcomes and have left the door open for Dan to join out line-up next year. There will be lots more to see and do. 1 more sleep and the excitement begins. Get Fired up in Childers tomorrow for the 5th Annual Childers Heritage Day.

Be sure to check out the Historic Window Displays this week in the lead up to Childers Heritage Day on May 9th. You will find them at the Childers Library, Childers Hot Bread and Cake Shop, and Isis Canegrowers - celebrating 100 years this year. There is also a collection of Wedding photos down the ages at the Childers Old Pharmacy Museum - utilizing the theme of 'Change' as part of the Australian Heritage Festival. Haven't got a program for Heritage Day yet, then pop in to the Old Pharmacy Museum!!!

Today marks 1 week until the 5th Childers Heritage Day kicks off on Saturday 9th May, 2026 across Childers. Come celebrate 50 years of the Isis District Historical Society Inc, your hosts of this event. This event is part of the Australian Heritage Festival and the National Trust.

May 2nd & 3rd May is your last chance to see our Pop-up exhibition at the Childers Art Space (CHARTS) in the Palace Building. It is celebrating 50 years of ‘Preserving our Past for the Future’. A new exhibition will commence at 2pm on Heritage Day.

Be sure not to miss our Headliner Dan Davie – 2-times World Champion Blacksmith at the Childers Historical Complex in Taylor Street. Much More to see!!!

Heritage Day kicks with off at the Apple Tree Creek Markets from 7am, while all events and Open House in Childers start at 9am.

Refer to our 4-page program for more details. Please note the Childers C.W.A. will be serving Delicious Devonshire Teas from 9.30 until 1pm and not the times in our program. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Wide Bay Historic Machinery Club Inc. with their working engines.
Great War Living History Maryborough - all dressed up including the horses.
Sewing Group: Fraser Coast Lace Makers demonstrating Bobbin Lace making) and The Sewing Circle Inc. showing hand sewing techniques.
Heritage Christian Church will conduct Three-legged Races, Egg and Spoon Races and Sack Races for the Primary School children.
Rusty Hide Leather Co. - Rick Wright demonstrating and teaching Leather belt making. Kath Wright demonstrating plaiting and braiding of Leather whips, Rayanne Dossel demonstrating Leather art and Andy demonstrating hand wood-carving

This year we are mounting a collaborative exhibition with the Childers Art Gallery (CHARTS). This will be held in the iconic Palace Building from 9am April 28th until 1 pm on May 3rd 2026. It will feature a number of historic pieces including the Shark Alarm from the former Woodgate Surf Life Saving Club, china plates off the H.M.S. Bounty, a horn from a former Coal-powered Sugarcane loco and lots more.

A new exhibition will open at 2 pm on Childers Heritage Day named ‘Metal in Motion’ by Kevin Dekker. This is a free event and open to everyone.

The updated Childers Pavement Gallery brochure will also be available. This version has been refreshed and reordered to follow the trail as it is experienced in person. In addition to this, the Palace Hotel Commemorative Trail will be re-launched (renamed 10 x Memory Boxes) and have engaged Sam Di Mauro, the artist behind both the Trail and the Memorial Wall, to deliver an Artist Talk at 12.30 pm on May 9th .

Marking its 50th anniversary, this exhibition traces the Isis District Historical Society’s beginnings in 1975 through to the opening of the Childers Historical Complex in 1988.
It celebrates the volunteers, traditions and local history that have shaped the region, and highlights the ongoing commitment to “Preserving our past for the future.”
Presented in connection with Childers Heritage Day, to be held on 9 May 2026.

Yesterday saw the first day of the Australian Heritage Festival - a Nationwide Celebration coordinated by the National Trust of Australia Queensland. The Festival will end on Monday 18th May.
Bundaberg School of Arts hosted an exhibition 'History in your Hands' by Childers' own Marilyn Murray. The exhibition was masterminded by Bess Martin of the Bundaberg Regional History Group. Refreshments were provided by Ed and Maryanne from Vintners Secret. Marilyn's miniature paintings will adorn the walls until April 24. The next event in Childers will be the Pop-up exhibition by the Isis District Historical Society Inc at the Childers Arts Space (CHARTS) from Wednesday 29th April until May 4th. “Celebrating 50 Years of ‘Preserving our Past for the Future’. This is also a prequel to the main event on Saturday 9th May across many Childers venues. A new exhibition will open at CHARTS on Saturday 9th May at 2pm - ‘Metal in Motion’ by Kevin Dekker.

The Federal Hotel, Childers has joined the lineup for this year’s Childers Heritage Day. We are also grateful for their very generous Silver Sponsorship!!! A Room will showcase period furnishings and the verandah will be open for tours from 9am until 12 noon on Saturday 9th May, 2026. There will also be a Heritage style menu in the week prior. Breakfast will also be available from 7am until 11am all weekend. I know you can't wait, so get along today to enjoy a cold beer and scrumptious lunch or dinner!!!
