Yesterday Chesney Vale CFA along with neighbouring brigades responded to a fire in the vicinity of Cherry Tree Lane and Chesney Vale Rd (near Walker Rd ). The fire is now contained within the Mount Meg Conservation Reserve and is being managed by Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMV). You may see or smell smoke over the next day or 2 as FFMV personnel on this fire ground black out and reduce any pockets of unburnt fuel.

Do not be concerned about this as it is part of managing and extinguishing the fire.

The Chesney Vale CFA Brigade and the Benalla CFA Group are in close liaison with FFMV and providing support where they can.

Should you have any concerns or wish to discuss please do not hesitate to call me.

Mike Dodgson Captain Chesney Vale CFA Fire Brigade.

As temperatures rise, we’re reminding everyone that preventing bushfires starts with personal responsibility.

Last bushfire season, there were 59 offences relating to causing a bushfire, with 23 linked to reckless behaviour.
In one incident, local police evacuated more than 150 people from campsites in the Cape Otway area after a fire was reported in bushland near Blanket Bay Road and Red Hill Track. After more than six hours, the fire was brought under control, with 14 hectares burnt.

Thankfully, no one was physically injured. Investigators later determined the cause was an unattended campfire that had not been properly extinguished.

During the fire season, Victoria Police implements Operation Safeguard, ensuring police are ready to respond to fire-related threats.

The community also plays a critical role in bushfire prevention, particularly by reporting reckless or suspicious behaviour.

This fire season, remember to:
πŸ”₯ Check Fire Danger Ratings daily and know what you can and can’t do.
πŸ”₯ Use more than one source of information to stay informed.
πŸ”₯ If you see suspicious activity in progress, call Triple Zero (000).
