💙 Winter is tough on all the Minton Farm animals 💙 Extremely cold weather means extra feed, extra bedding, and extra medications. Please consider donating to our Sandersons Fodder Store account so we can continue to keep the long term animals and influx of rescues warm, well fed and comfortable. We are especially short on large and small parrot mix, dry dog food, kangaroo pellets, Capra goat meal, stablemate, chaff and wheat. This Brushtail possum was found hiding under a car. It is suffering from exudative dermatitis, a common condition at this time of year particularly in cold, wet suburbs. It is caused by stress from over crowding, fighting, lack of nest sites and food. They have scabs and fur loss and a particularly offensive odor. Eventually they go blind and come out during daylight as they can’t tell that it’s not dark. Kindest thing is to take them to the vet to stop it spreading to others and to end its suffering.

Baby lorikeet season has begun!! This fella fell from a Palm tree nest which is their favorite place to nest. He was unsure about his warm nectar at first and once he had the taste, was unstoppable!😂

Spoilt for choice in his nice, warm vivarium. The power for his tank is now guaranteed even during a power failure! Longleat UK have generously given us a grant for our work again and we have invested it into solar batteries to back up our Intensive Care Unit 24/7. Lord and Lady Bath have been long term supporters of Minton Farm, sending two keepers here after the bushfires to help us to cope with burnt Roos, koalas , echidnas and possums. They completely revamped our medical storage in the hospital which has been fantastic, as well as assisting with a myriad of jobs. Other grants have been used to build new enclosures for raptors, bettongs and Potoroo. We are deeply grateful for their kindness and the friendships formed over the years. Thankyou

This lovely young ringtail possum was found on the ground and would not move off when placed in a tree after dark a week ago. She was found to have blood in her urine in the first couple of days in our Intensive Care Unit. Over time this ceased and she began to eat again and become active after dark again. I snuck in the check her tonight and she was happily cruising around strongly. She is well enough to go back home again now. 👌💯

🦎💚 Brumation season is well and truly underway across Western Australia.

Many of our native reptiles, including beloved bobtail lizards, spend the cooler months in a state known as brumation, a reptile version of hibernation where they become far less active and conserve energy until warmer weather returns.

That doesn't mean they're completely asleep, though. On sunny winter days, you may spot a bobtail, skink, or other reptile briefly emerging to bask in the sunshine before returning to shelter.
Please take a little extra care when walking, gardening, moving firewood, or working outdoors. Slow-moving reptiles can be difficult to spot amongst leaf litter, rocks, and pathways.
This handsome bobtail was enjoying a patch of winter sunshine when he almost received the heel of a boot before one of our carers noticed him and gently moved him slightly off the path.
A quick glance at where you're stepping could save a life. 🦎☀️

This adult blue tongue lizard arrived with an eye problem. He has completely healed and is keen to go home again. 👍🤗

This beautiful boy flew into a window flat out today. They thought he was dead but he was in shock and pain. He’s on pain relief in a warm incubator now. 🤞
