WALK FOR TRUTH – CANBERRA 27th May 2026 - a message from Mayor Bruce Simpson
What an amazing event to be part of today. I was accompanied by the USMob Cherbourg Radio Media team to help film this historic occasion.
Approximately 600+ delegates from across the country attended, representing communities, all levels of government, the private sector, philanthropic organisations, allies, and supporters.

Over the past three months, organised by Travis Lovett from Melbourne, the “Walk for Truth” saw a strong contingent walk from Melbourne to Canberra to send a powerful message to the Federal Government about the importance of continuing Truth-Telling in our Nation.

It was a deeply impactful experience and a reminder that there is hope in our Nation — hope that our voices will continue to be heard, and that acknowledging our shared history can bring all Australians together.
Now, we need continued action — not just words, but genuine commitment to Truth-Telling, healing, reconciliation, and self-determination for future generations.

As Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month draws to a close, community members, Cherbourg State School students, local service providers and Cherbourg Council came together to march as one through community with a simple but powerful message — “No More Violence.”

Councillor Carla Fisher led the call, the march brought people of all ages together in a strong show of unity, respect and support for safer families and stronger futures. Pop Frank Malone, alongside other men and young men from community, took turns beating the drum as the march moved through the streets, helping carry the message loud and clear.

Despite the wet weather, the spirit of the day remained strong, with students proudly carrying banners and signs calling for respect, healing and change.

Thank you to everyone who helped organise, support and take part in this important community event. Every conversation, every voice and every step taken together helps raise awareness and strengthen the stand against violence in our community.

No More Violence. Stronger Together.
