💙 First Responders Day 💙

What a fantastic First Responders Day at Blacksmiths Public School
It started with PolAir landing on the school oval at 10.00am, followed by a presentation to all the first responders in attendance by the school principal. Agencies attending included NSW Police, Fire & Rescue, Marine Rescue, RFS, Surf Lifesaving, and NSW Ambulance in addition to ourselves. Kids had the exciting chance to walk through and explore the vehicles, making it a memorable day for everyone!

A fantastic weekend for the Northern Zone Disaster Rescue Challenge with 6 teams completing.
Whilst we didn’t complete as a unit we had many members volunteering as support personnel.

If you live along the NSW Coast and ranges, it might be time to organise a plan b for outdoor activities this weekend! ☔️😬

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast throughout Sunday-Tuesday, so we recommend monitoring conditions over the coming days.

Coastal rainfall is expected to increase with a focus along the north coast. There is a potential for localised moderate to heavy falls which could cause flash flooding.

📲 Download Hazards Near Me or visit the NSW SES website to stay up to date with warnings and information, especially as the weather moves through and may affect other areas.

NSW SES members are ready to respond to any calls for assistance, but we ask the community to be prepared too.

🚫 Steer clear of floodwater - If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route. Remember that flash flooding is dangerous and unpredictable, so stay vigilant.

🔸 Move your car under cover or away from trees and powerlines if safe to do so.
🔸 Keep clear of creeks and storm drains
🔸 If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring Triple Zero (000) if you need rescue
🔸 Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

📞 If you require assistance in floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life-threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000).

“As we left the search area, people were cheering, waving and sounding their horns. It’s something I’ll never forget.”

Swansea SES Commander Alichea Archer says she is driven by helping others as she reflected on assisting in the large-scale 2021 search for missing boy AJ near Putty.

For Inspector Archer, volunteering with the NSW SES offers far more than emergency response experience.

“I’ve also made lifelong friendships and memories I’ll always value.” She said.

🧡 In the lead-up to WOW Day on May 20, we’re shining a spotlight on some incredible volunteers like Alichea, who help make the SES what it is.

NSW SES Swansea - Catherine Hill Bay Unit will be providing any and all support we can for our fellow volunteers at NSW SES Wyong Unit.

No matter what part of the Central Coast support from the SES will be available as always.

Need assistance, call 📞 132500

Hi Coasties,

As many of you are aware, the Wyong SES Unit suffered a devastating fire at our headquarters earlier this week, resulting in the loss of our vehicles and equipment.

While we’ve lost assets, we haven’t lost what matters most, our people. All members are safe and well, and the Wyong SES Unit remains ready to serve the community.

In the short term, our neighbouring units from Gosford and Swansea are assisting with coverage across the Wyong area. If you need SES assistance, please continue to call 132 500. Our members will still be responding alongside other units using temporary resources.

We sincerely thank the community for the incredible support shown during this time. We’re working hard to get back to operational status as soon as possible.

Thank you Wyong SES

Our thoughts are with the two volunteers and their families who lost their lives in Ballina this week.

Our thoughts are with the two volunteers and their families who lost their lives in Ballina this week.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.
