Casino Rural Fire Brigade

Casino Rural Fire Brigade The Casino Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer service protecting the community. We range from grasslands to bush areas.

The Casino Brigade takes in many areas around the area (North, South, East and West of Casino). Our area is made up of cattle properties, chicken farms, greyhound breeders and trainers, orchards and private dwellings. Our station is situated beside the Northern Rivers Fire Control Centre on Neville Bienke Memorial Drive South Casino. As most rural fire brigades we not only attend incidents in our own area but anywhere in the Northern Rivers area and sometimes beyond.

Happy Mothers Day 💐

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

Saturday Casino and Tomki successfully completed the Victoria Park HR at Greenridge. As we returned to the station, we were responded to a bush fire at Captains Creek, Tabulam, following reports of a bushfire.

A fire was burning along a gully in the creek, fanned by strong winds, pushing the fire into open grasslands. Crews worked with blowers and hose lines to get into the difficult terrain to extinguish the fire before returning.
Frashers Cutting, Drake Rural Fire Brigade ,
and Ewingar Rural Fire Brigades all in attendance.

We would like to give a friendly reminder that even though the bushfire danger period will end at midnight tonight (31st March) , you are still required to notify your intention to burn to the Rural Fire Service. Follow the link below or call 02 6626 6922.

This is not a new rule, but with more people moving into rural areas, it is important for everyone to follow the rules.
If your fire is reported to 000 and you've failed to notify the RFS, significant fines can be issued.

Notifying all adjoining neighbours (including those directly across a road or creek) at least 24 hours prior to lighting, is still a requirement, regardless of the time of year.

Volunteers do not want to attend if you do not require help, so we ask you to take a few minutes to notify your intention.

Notify 24/7 in just a few minutes.

Another busy afternoon with conditions getting dry, and landowners are being caught out.

At 15:27, Casino was paged to a grass fire on Kings Lane, Tatham, where a neighboring fire escaped containment and burned into timbered areas on the neighboring properties. Working with the property owners where the fire had entered, crews worked at getting containment, but it was made difficult due to the hazard of falling paperbark trees.
Crews, including Casino East Rural Fire Brigade - Greenridge/Tatham and Tomki Rural Fire Brigade , blacked out as best as possible in the conditions until heavy plant can be assigned to the fire or significant rain overnight.
Casino East will return in the morning to check conditions and work on a containment strategy after the weather overnight. Smoke will likely be in the area for the coming days. Keep up to date using the Hazards Near Me App.

As crews were leaving the scene, Casino and Tomki were redirected to a vehicle fire on Summerland Way at Rappville Road, where the occupants' vehicle caught fire while traveling. Thankfully, they escaped without injury. Crews extinguished the fire before returning to the station.

It's been a busy few days for Casino Crew members.

Saturday and Sunday saw members head to the NSW RFS Northern Tablelands District as part of a NSW RFS - Northern Rivers Zone strike team to assist with the Rocky River Fire to create strong containment in difficult firefighting terrain. With the containment strategy in place, there was a positive outcome for nearby residents, with the fire being listed as contained after nine days of constant firefighting efforts from the ground and air by local crews. For any further information regarding the Rocky River Fire, please visit the Northern Tablelands page tagged.

At 20:44 on Sunday, Casino 1 was paged to a car fire on private property at Yorklea. Thankfully, the car was extinguished and left the owner with no further damage to their property.

We would just like to take a moment to congratulate all the members of the local communities who are receiving Australia Day awards today.

Our very own Captain Joel was nominated for a Richmond Valley Australia Day award for the countless hours he dedicates not only to the Casino Brigade but also to the wider community.

Members of neighboring Brigades also received nominations for the Richmond Valley Awards.

Ellangowan Rural Fire Brigade member Annie Vanderegt received a nomination for her countless hours dedicated to the Ellangowan Brigade and also the Ellangowan Hall Committee, helping bring the rural community together.

Casino East Rural Fire Brigade - Greenridge/Tatham member Helen Cowan is nominated for her countless hours with Casino East, as well as her work for the Greenridge Hall, keeping it in great shape for the community to use.

Lastly, but very importantly, retired Group Officer Rick Teudt has received the RFS Australian Fire Service Medal for his years of dedication to the NSW RFS - Northern Rivers Zone , Woodburn RFS Brigade , and beyond.

We would like to congratulate all those in the Richmond Valley and beyond who were nominated for awards. It's these kinds of people who volunteer their time to make Australia the best country in the world to live in.

Johnson Road HR was successfully completed this afternoon, with perfect conditions for the containment of the burn. The burn preparation was organized and completed by NSW RFS - Northern Rivers Zone and NSW Rural Fire Service Far North Coast Team state mitigation after a request for assistance was submitted. The burn site will have a patrol tomorrow by a Casino crew to ensure the fire is out before the expected very hot weather over the coming days. The photos below show the green grass burning very well with a large fuel load underneath.

Thanks to Ellangowan Rural Fire Brigade for coming in to assist on short notice.
