Steve has been a City of Melton resident for 15 years and during that time has, as a volunteer, mentored and taught disadvantaged young people life skills to help them lead fulfilling lives. He is passionate about ensuring the community’s most vulnerable and disenfranchised residents have a voice and are represented in key Council issues. He is particularly interested in relieving the cost-of-living pressures faced by residents. The achievements and passion of this city’s residents, together with the picturesque parks, gardens and lakes are what make Steve a proud resident and Councillor of the municipality. Steve and his wife Mariasol, a cancer nurse, have two primary school aged sons: Rafael, Orlando and cute groodle puppy named Aldo. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration, graduating with a high distinction average and has worked in the State Government and not-for-profit sector.

🥙 A taste of Beirut at Beirut Bakehouse 🇱🇧❤️

Maria and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Beirut Bakehouse in Taylors Lakes, just outside the City of Melton, but definitely worth the short trip!

The food was absolutely delicious, with beautiful Lebanese flavours, fresh ingredients and plenty of choice. From the warm hospitality to the quality of the food, it was a fantastic experience. 👏🏻😋

If you’re in the area, I definitely recommend stopping by Beirut Bakehouse and supporting this wonderful local business. 🇱🇧❤️

CALL TO HIS PAUSE ON DATA CENTRES!

During a council meeting on 24 August, Melton councillor Steve Abboushi said community concerns highlighted the unfairness of the consideration of data centres through state planning pathways, ultimately leaving local councils and their communities out of the planning process.

“There are significant community concerns that some proposals are being considered through State planning pathways that reduce the role of local councils and communities in decision-making,” he said.

“There is a need to develop clear planning policy at a federal and state level to guide assessment of data centre development and provide greater certainty for local communities.”

🎓 Connecting with our future community leaders!

It was a real privilege to spend time with Year 12 students from local schools who are undertaking the VET Community Services program. 🙏🏻

I really enjoyed sharing some of my personal experiences as a local Councillor, including my journey into local government, the role of a Councillor, and what it means to represent, listen to and advocate for our community.

It’s fantastic to see young people choosing a pathway focused on supporting and strengthening our community. I wish them all the very best with their studies and their future careers! 💪🏻🎓

Spring has arrived, and our feathered locals are officially on nest-protection duty! 🪺

Have you been swooped yet? 👀👇
Where’s the biggest swooping hotspot in your area?

A few simple tips to stay safe:

👀 Keep watch for signs and known swooping spots
🚶 Walk calmly — don’t run
🚲 Cycling? Hop off and walk your bike
🧢 Protect your head with a hat, sunglasses or umbrella
🐕 Keep dogs on leads and children close
🌳 Give nests and chicks plenty of space

Most importantly, don’t harass or try to scare swooping birds. They’re simply protecting their young, and native birds are protected in Victoria. 💛

✂️ BENTLEY’S BIG CHOP FOR CANCER COUNCIL 💛

As a proud member of our local community, I’m delighted to share the story of seven-year-old Bentley, a local resident with a very big heart.

Bentley has never had a haircut in his seven years, growing his iconic plait with one special purpose, to donate his hair to help create a wig for someone who has lost theirs through cancer treatment. ✂️

Now, Bentley is preparing for the big chop and, alongside donating his hair, is raising funds for Cancer Council.

This cause is especially personal, with cancer having touched his family through his Great-Grandmother Nanny Moos, Uncle Andrew and Great-Aunty Mary. 💙

Now it’s our turn to get behind Bentley and his family.

🙏 Every donation, big or small, will help Bentley reach his goal and support people and families affected by cancer.

NAMING OUR NEW AQUATIC CENTRE 🏊‍♂️

Earlier this year we asked for your suggestions on what to name the new Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Thanks to everyone who shared their ideas. The highest voted naming theme was Linking the name to place, receiving over 72% of the vote.

The shortlisted name for the new aquatic and leisure centre is “Tides Fraser Rise.”
