Take a moment to slow down this September and discover the incredible wildlife living right here in the City of Canning.

Pictured is a Silvereye (Zosterops lateralis), one of our smallest and most active native birds. Recognisable by its bright white eye-ring, the Silvereye plays an important role in our local environment by pollinating plants, dispersing seeds, and helping keep insect populations in balance.

As native trees and shrubs burst into flower this spring, keep an eye out for these tiny feathered visitors darting through gardens, parks, wetlands, and bushland reserves.

🌱 This Biodiversity Month, we invite you to connect with nature by:
• Taking a walk through your local reserve and observing local wildlife
• Planting locally native species in your garden

📸 Have you spotted a Silvereye or another local species this spring?

Planning a Father’s Day outing this Sunday 6 September? Shelley Foreshore is a great place to enjoy some time outdoors with family and friends.

To make your visit easier, we’ll be opening the overflow parking area to provide additional parking for the day. Bring a picnic, enjoy the river, explore the foreshore and make the most of one of our beautiful local parks.

Please follow the entry and exit signage when accessing the overflow area. Come down, find a park and enjoy a great Father’s Day by the river.

Founded in 1928 by a small group of Cannington girls, the Whywurrie Club brought local young people together through friendship, sport and social activities.

The Club became particularly successful in women’s hockey, fielding two teams for much of the 1930s, with two members going on to become State players.

But Whywurrie wasn’t only about sport! Dances and social events helped raise funds for the Club, and its annual Whywurrie Balls became popular occasions, drawing people from far and wide.

After more than a decade at the heart of Cannington’s social and sporting life, the Whywurrie Club disbanded during the war years.
