Quick Rescue Tip: What to do if you find a turtle on the road.
If it is safe to stop, move the turtle off the road in the same direction it was already travelling. Never turn it around — it knows where it wants to go and may simply try to cross again.
Hold the turtle securely by the sides of its shell, keep it low to the ground and never pick it up by the tail.
Take a few seconds to check for injuries. If the shell is cracked, there is bleeding, or the turtle appears injured or unwell, contain it safely and contact your local wildlife rescue organisation or vet.
A minute of your time could save a life.
