Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon met in Noosa on Saturday 6 June for the Australia–New Zealand Annual Leaders’ Meeting.

Leaders discussed strengthening our nations’ economic resilience, boosting prosperity, and responding to strategic challenges. This includes working together closely on the fuel crisis and keeping trade open for energy products and other critical goods.

This year marks 75 years of the Australia and New Zealand Alliance under the ANZUS Treaty. Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to increasing cooperation between our defence forces, so by 2035 we are able to operate as a more integrated Anzac force.

The Honours List includes:

Women continue to be underrepresented in honours, often because they are nominated less frequently. Help change this by nominating a woman whose contribution deserves recognition.

National Reconciliation Week 2026 has been a meaningful and engaging week across PM&C, with strong participation from staff and a shared commitment to being All In for reconciliation.

Across the week, colleagues came together to deepen understanding, reflect on our shared history, and celebrate the cultures, strength and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

From the Walk on Country and cultural training sessions, to the NGA tour, panel discussion on the Priority Reforms Roadmap, and the spirit of connection seen at the Reconciliation bake-off that raised more than $500 for BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation, each event provided valuable opportunities to learn and engage.

Floral Friday on Torres Strait Islander Flag Day (29 May) was a standout moment, with staff across the department visibly showing their support. We closed the week by honouring Mabo Day, reflecting on the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo and its enduring significance for land rights and reconciliation.

Thank you to everyone who participated, contributed and supported the week. These moments matter, but it is what we do next that counts. Let us carry this momentum forward and continue to embed reconciliation in how we work, lead and serve every day.

Our Reconciliation Champion, Lisa Elliston, recently joined Ngunawal descendants Tyronne and Jai Bell, along with other PM&C staff, for a guided walk on Country at Black Mountain in Canberra.

Tyronne and Jai from Thunderstone shared stories about the culture, history and traditions of the Ngunawal People, as well as the significance of local landmarks.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn more about our shared history, cultures and achievements. It’s also an opportunity for each of us to think about how we can support reconciliation in our daily work and lives.
