🇵🇹 Embaixadora Carla Saragoça recebeu o Dr. Raymond Kelly, Presidente do New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council, bem como David Lee e Kerryn Ingrey, no âmbito dos Diálogos Diplomáticos que o Conselho está a promover junto das missões diplomáticas acreditadas em Camberra.

A reunião constituiu uma valiosa oportunidade para aprofundar o conhecimento sobre os desafios, prioridades e iniciativas das comunidades aborígenes australianas

🇦🇺 Ambassador Carla Saragoça welcomed Dr. Raymond Kelly, President of the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council, together with David Lee and Kerryn Ingrey, as part of the Diplomatic Dialogues being conducted by the Council with diplomatic missions accredited in Canberra.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to deepen the Embassy’s understanding of the challenges, priorities and initiatives of Aboriginal communities across Australia.

A Embaixadora de Portugal em Canberra participou recentemente em diversos eventos que reforçam o diálogo internacional e a cooperação com parceiros estratégicos.

Acompanhada pelo Chefe de Missão Adjunto Rodrigo Gavazzi, esteve presente num evento de networking europeu na Parliament House, que reuniu representantes diplomáticos, governamentais e parlamentares e proporcionou uma oportunidade de troca de impressões com o deputado de origem portuguesa Leon Rebello.

Participou igualmente nas comemorações do 35.º aniversário da Declaração de Independência da Ucrânia, numa iniciativa promovida pelo Grupo Parlamentar de Amizade Austrália-Ucrânia.

Paralelamente, no contexto da cooperação científica internacional e da participação de Portugal no SKAO Observatory, marcou também presença na receção de boas-vindas à nova Diretora-Geral da organização, Prof. Jessica Dempsey.



The Ambassador of Portugal to Canberra recently took part in a number of events aimed at strengthening international dialogue and cooperation with strategic partners.

Accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Rodrigo Gavazzi, she attended a European networking event at Parliament House, which brought together diplomatic, governmental and parliamentary representatives and provided an opportunity to exchange views with Portuguese-Australian Member of Parliament Leon Rebello.

She also participated in celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Declaration of Independence, an initiative organised by the Australia–Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group.

In parallel, within the framework of international scientific cooperation and Portugal’s participation in the SKAO Observatory, she attended the welcome reception for the organisation’s new Director-General, Prof. Jessica Dempsey.

A Embaixada de Portugal em Camberra acolheu, na Residência Oficial, um almoço de trabalho que reuniu representantes dos setores financeiro, económico, empresarial, tecnológico, académico e diplomático da Austrália, de Portugal e da União Europeia.

Entre os participantes estiveram Nuno Matos (ANZ Banking Group), Daniel Boyer (Austrade), Dougal McInnes (DFAT), Jason Collins (European Australian Business Council), Lawrence Meredith (União Europeia), Teresa Alvarenga (Consulado-Geral de Portugal em Sydney), Armando Teixeira-Pinto (Universidade de Sydney), Susana Teixeira-Pinto (Coordenação do Ensino do Português na Austrália), Nuno Varandas (NTT DATA Australia) e Maria Martins (OutSystems).

A discussão incidiu sobre alguns dos temas que ocupam hoje um lugar central nas agendas da Austrália e da União Europeia, entre os quais a inovação, as tecnologias digitais, a investigação aplicada, a mobilidade académica, a atração de talento e o investimento de longo prazo.

Foi igualmente destacada a importância do Horizon Europe enquanto plataforma privilegiada para aproximar universidades, centros de investigação, empresas e investidores dos dois continentes, bem como o interesse crescente em aprofundar a cooperação nestes domínios.

Mereceu ainda particular atenção o papel dos fundos de superannuation australianos enquanto investidores institucionais globais e as oportunidades que essa realidade poderá oferecer à Europa.

A riqueza da discussão refletiu a importância crescente da relação entre a União Europeia e a Austrália e as oportunidades que esta poderá gerar nos domínios da inovação, da ciência, da educação e do investimento, confirmando igualmente a relevância do contributo de Portugal para esta aproximação.

The Embassy of Portugal in Canberra hosted a working lunch at the Official Residence, bringing together representatives from the financial, economic, business, technology, academic and diplomatic sectors of Australia, Portugal and the European Union.

Participants included Nuno Matos (ANZ Banking Group), Daniel Boyer (Austrade), Dougal McInnes (DFAT), Jason Collins (European Australian Business Council), Lawrence Meredith (European Union), Teresa Alvarenga (Consulate-General of Portugal in Sydney), Armando Teixeira-Pinto (University of Sydney), Susana Teixeira-Pinto (Coordination of Portuguese Language Teaching in Australia), Nuno Varandas (NTT DATA Australia) and Maria Martins (OutSystems).

The discussion focused on a number of issues that are increasingly central to both Australian and European agendas, including innovation, digital technologies, applied research, academic mobility, talent attraction and long-term investment.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of Horizon Europe as a key platform for bringing together universities, research institutions, businesses and investors across the two continents, as well as on the growing interest in deepening cooperation in these areas.

Special attention was also given to the role of Australian superannuation funds as global institutional investors and to the opportunities that this reality may offer for Europe.

The richness of the discussion reflected the growing importance of the relationship between the European Union and Australia and the opportunities it can generate in the fields of innovation, science, education and investment, while also confirming the relevance of Portugal’s contribution to this strengthening partnership.

A Sr.ª Embaixadora Carla Saragoça recebeu, na Residência Oficial de Portugal em Camberra, o Embaixador Designado da União Europeia para a Austrália, Lawrence Meredith.

Após três anos à frente da Delegação da União Europeia em Wellington, onde acompanhou um período particularmente dinâmico das relações entre a União Europeia e a Nova Zelândia, inicia agora funções na Austrália, trazendo consigo uma valiosa experiência regional e um profundo conhecimento do Indo-Pacífico.

O encontro permitiu uma troca de impressões sobre a evolução das relações entre a União Europeia, a Austrália e Portugal, bem como sobre temas de interesse comum, alicerçados numa sólida relação de confiança, cooperação e valores partilhados.

Ambassador Carla Saragoça received at the Official Residence of Portugal in Canberra the Ambassador-Designate of the European Union to Australia, Lawrence Meredith.

Following three years as Head of the European Union Delegation in Wellington, during a particularly dynamic period in EU-New Zealand relations, he now takes up his new post in Australia, bringing with him valuable regional experience and a deep understanding of the Indo-Pacific.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the evolving relationship between the European Union, Australia and Portugal, as well as on issues of common interest, underpinned by a strong foundation of trust, cooperation and shared values.

The ceremony will recognise members of the Portuguese community who have distinguished themselves through their contribution to the promotion of Portuguese values, culture and presence in Western Australia.
