DHOM Sam Roberts was delighted to attend the Queensland Government’s Multicultural Community reception at Parliament House in Brisbane. Among the Irish organisations recognised for their service to the community were IASAQ | Irish Australian Support Association of Queensland and Annual Brisbane Irish Festival

Sam was also grateful to speak with Premier David Crisafulli MP to confirm that Ireland will soon appoint a new Honorary Consul to Queensland. The Premier expressed his full support, and we look forward to strengthening the relationship between Ireland and Queensland in the years to come.

Last night the Embassy of Ireland in collaboration with the Embassy of Belgium had the honour to host a Model EU Speed Networking Roundtable reception at the Ambassador’s residence.

This event was hosted as part of a programme that was jointly run with the EU Delegation for the ANU European Studies Association.

At the event, the students had the opportunity to talk about everything European Union and Public Diplomacy with EU Diplomats and EU Delegation representatives. The roundtable speed meetings were followed by a networking reception where Irish and Belgian food and beverages were served.

It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and eagerness from the students and leaders of tomorrow to learn about European Union and its crucial function in the world now more than ever.

We thank our friends from the Belgium Embassy for such a successful collaboration and our EU Delegation colleagues for the initiative. The Model EU progarmme concluded this morning at the EU Delegation’s diplomatic panel where students completed their two day hard talk on the topic.

Ireland currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It is a key leadership role in EU decision-making. Irish Presidency priorities are as follows:

Competitiveness – fostering prosperity and wellbeing;

Values – upholding the indispensable foundation of the European Union; &

Security – protecting our citizens

Ambassador Flood was delighted to meet the Governor-General of Australia, Sam Mostyn, at a lunch hosted by the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, at Áras an Uachtaráin.

2026 marks the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Australia, and President Catherine Connolly was honoured to welcome Governor-General of Australia for an official visit to Ireland at the end of July. The visit was a valuable opportunity to celebrate the deep connection between our two countries.

The Governor-General’s trip included attending the historic All-Ireland Football Final in Croke Park, and a meeting with Australia-bound Mayo star Kobe McDonald. HE Sam Mostyn also met with former Presidents of Ireland, Dr Mary Robinson and Michael D Higgins, and visited the Book of Kells in Trinity College Dublin.

The centrepiece of the visit was a lunch hosted by the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, and attended by members of the Government, officials and key members of the Irish-Australian community.

We can't wait for the historic AFLW match between Ireland and Australia tomorrow at 4.15pm AEST at North Sydney Oval.

We have some amazing Irish players on the field tomorrow who are an inspiration for women's sport in Ireland, Australia and beyond.

Ambassador Flood and CG Christian were delighted to host the Irish rugby team and coach Andy Farrell, as well as Les Kiss and CEO Phil Waugh from the Wallabies on the eve of Ireland’s match against Australia. The Ambassador was grateful to be joined by our guest of honour, the Governor-General of Australia, HE Sam Mostyn AC Governor-General of Australia

We were also delighted to host the Governor of NSW HE Margaret Beazley AC KC, Assistant Minister the Hon Nita Green and NSW Attorney General Michael Daley MP. Thank you also to for supporting the reception.

The bonds between Ireland and Australia are as strong as ever, and regardless of the result, we are united by sport 🇮🇪🇦🇺
