NKRYPT is Questacon’s latest outdoor exhibit, and joins a select group of public cryptography challanges. It sits along other pieces in the area around the building, providing engagement and stimulation for visitors and passersby. It contains many separate codes and ciphers, laser cut into 8 stainless steel poles. The challenges are all discrete but interlinked
, and solving one may provide a clue to solving others. Some are intended to be quickly broken, but only some. Decoding a message may reveal a further puzzle to be solved. The final code will open with a key that will emerge from the solution of all the other codes. Nkrypt contains a special Canberra Centenary Code Challenge, with a significant prize to be claimed by the first person to crack and explain its message. Neither Complex mathematics nor powerful computers were used to create the codes within NKRYPT, and only some might yield to these approaches.
