What’s the big deal about Payday Super?

From 1 July 2026, employers are required to pay super at the same time as wages. This change is about reducing unpaid super, giving workers real-time visibility of contributions, and improving retirement outcomes through more frequent payments.
Here’s what’s specific to APS and ADF members:

PSSap and ADF Super: you may have heard that employers get an extended deadline for first contributions to new employees or new funds. That exemption does not apply to you. The PSSap Trust Deed and the Defence Act 1903 already require contributions every payday, and those obligations take precedence over the optional extended timeframes in the Payday Super legislation.

Payments made outside your regular pay cycle? Your SG contribution must be made within 7 business days of your next standard pay cycle.

And if you're a contractor? if you’re deemed an employee for super purposes (you’re paid for your personal labour and skills, and the work can’t be delegated), super must reach your fund within 7 business days of your invoice being paid.

ADF members, did you know this about your super? Here are 3 things worth understanding:
• insurance cover after you transition to civilian life
• employer super contributions of 16.4% while serving
• the option to consolidate your super and stay with ADF Super.

It’s not complicated, but it can make a real difference when planning ahead.

Featuring Jules Hohnen, ADF Communications Consultant at CSC

📌 Before consolidating, consider whether this is right for you, including the potential loss of insurance cover and any other relevant benefits and any exit fees that may apply. Read the relevant PDS and TMD at https://ow.ly/Ckxg50Z6uHg. You may also wish to obtain financial advice.
