Canberra Progressives Vision

The Canberra Progressives aspire to a city run by a Government beholden to its citizens, favouring no one over others, but equitably engaging with all. It should be a flexible, transparent, and responsive Government reacting to a bottom up style of politics. The Canberra Progressives, like the Australian Progressives, see the wealth of the city coming from the empower

ment of its people. This can only be achieved by the reconnection of community in each of our neighborhoods, developing a 'sense of place', and promotion of the local economy. A strong local economy would be based on the importance of fostering innovation, including genuine cooperation between the Government and private enterprise, investment in the public sector responsible for managing this cooperation, and providing the critical infrastructure important in developing the local economy. The Canberra progressives also believe an extremely important part of a prosperous community is the empathetic treatment of our most vulnerable. Measures taken in support of those less fortunate should be aimed at creating opportunity, rather than be simple handouts. Our young and our elderly, disabled, jobless, homeless and our sick should each be considered as we build our city into the future. Through these things, the Canberra Progressives would like to see each of our citizens more positively engaged in the political process, reviving the true spirit of democracy. Reinvigorating a positive political discourse based on ethics over influence, evidence over opinion, collaboration over collusion, and leadership over dictatorship, we seek to make politics more than just a two sided football match. We want politics that builds community, and encourages people to be the change they want to see in Canberra. Visit the Australian Progressives website to learn more:

Love that this is back in time for the long weekend!

BREAKING: Awww… just in time for the long weekend, the restored Pooh Bear’s Corner sign on the Kings Highway on the Clyde Mountain was just unveiled this afternoon.

In this photo are Rose and David from Narooma Men's Shed who generously fixed the sign!

Mathew Hatcher - Mayor Eurobodalla Shire is still amazed at the sheer amount of people who noticed the sign missing and is glad it’s back, looking s***k and span.

Well done, to all involved, and most importantly drive safely.

Oh, and thanks to all those who enthusiastically tooted as the sign was unveiled!

Did you know about Welcoming Week? Great initiative!

We’re celebrating Welcoming Week this week, a global movement to bring communities and neighbours of all backgrounds together to build strong connections and inclusive cities.

To acknowledge the week, we are highlighting our community’s experiences of Canberra as a welcoming and inclusive city.

Meet Rabi, who was born and raised in South Sudan, and arrived in Australia in 2019 after spending time in Kenya and Uganda.

“Canberra is a welcoming city – it is a relaxed, family friendly place where people move at their own pace, meaning it isn’t overwhelming.

“When you are new to a country and city, it can be difficult to find the right opportunities. It wasn’t easy at the start, but after connecting with the Multicultural Hub, I was able to get a job and finish my TAFE studies.

“I am now studying a Bachelor of Tourism and Events Management and regularly volunteer with the African Australian Council ACT and Multicultural Hub Canberra.

“We have so many different cultures in Australia and Canberra, and it is really easy to love this city!”

Did you know in July Canberra joined an exclusive club of 38 global locations accredited as Advanced Welcoming Cities Status?
