High Commission of Malta in Australia

On 8 September, Malta commemorates Victory Day, known in Maltese as "Jum il-Vitorja", marking three significant events in our history: the Great Siege of 1565, the French blockade of 1800 and the Second World War Siege of 1943.

The day pays tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who defended Malta during some of the most challenging periods in our history, and reflects the resilience that continues to form an important part of our national identity.

National commemorations take place at the Great Siege Monument in Valletta and other sites of remembrance, concluding with the traditional Regatta in the Grand Harbour.

On this day, the High Commission will be closed to the public, and will reopen on Wednesday, 9 September, during its usual opening hours.

The Malta High Commission extends its warmest wishes to all Maltese in Australia and around the world on the occasion of Victory Day.

High Commissioner Clifford Borg-Marks, accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Mark Anthony Abela, recently made a courtesy visit to the Australian Defence College in Canberra, where they met with the Commander of the College, Major General Martin White, CSC, and a team of senior officers responsible for the delivery of the College's impressive range of academic programs.

High Commissioner Borg-Marks thanked Major General White for his warm welcome to the campus and for the informative session provided by his team. The Commander wished the High Commissioner every success in his tenure and presented him with a book on Australia as a souvenir of the visit. The High Commissioner reciprocated with two books related to Malta's rich military history, including "Three Anzacs from Malta" authored by Dr Gioconda Schembri, Consul-General for Malta in Melbourne.

Great results for Malta against China and Mexico at the World Aquatics Men’s U16 Water Polo Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. Two wins out of two — Well done boys!

The Maltese side, under the charge of Paul Privitera, prevailed in a penalty shoot-out after the match ended in an 8-8 draw.
