National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Celebrate NRW within the National Triangle you can take a self-guided audio tour of the artwork at Reconciliation place or listen to a special National Carillon concert with Tahalianna Soward-Mahanga on vocals.

Each year we release 1,000s of native fish into Lake Burley Griffin to compete with introduced species such as carp and red fin.

Here are some highlights of our latest release.

🚧 Big lift for the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge! πŸŒ‰

Recently our team completed the first pier lift - raising the bridge a very precise 8mm (yes, 'just' 8mm but when you're moving a national-icon-sized piece of infrastructure, it is a very big deal!).

Why are we lifting the bridge? Part of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal project includes replacement of the bridge bearings which sit between the bridge deck and the bridge piers. We need to lift the bridge off the piers to remove the existing bearings and get the new ones installed.

We'll next share footage of the bearing replacement process as we progress pier by pier to carefully renew this Canberra landmark and ensure it stays strong and safe for decades to come.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates as we continue lifting, shifting and revitalising one of the capital's most iconic bridges, 8mm at a time!

With cooler weather settling in, the 2025–26 Recreational Season has now closed. While most of us are swapping swims for scarves, we know there are still a few hardy Canberrans willing to dip a toe (or more!) into the lake in the depths of winter. ❄️

The good news is water quality testing now continues year-round! At the end of every week we’ll upload the latest water quality results so you can remain updated on conditions.

If you’re heading out on or near the water, please take extra care and remember:
🌑️ Water temperatures are dropping, increasing the risk of cold shock
🌫️ Foggy mornings are more common, reducing visibility
πŸ’‘ Make sure you’re visible and use appropriate lighting when swimming, paddling, rowing or boating – whatever your chosen lake activity may be.

Staying safe means you can keep enjoying the lake all year round β€” no matter how chilly it gets!

In this week’s water quality results there are a number of sites closed due to extreme levels of Blue-Green Algae or elevated bacteria. They are:

πŸ“ Central and West Basins
πŸ“ Lotus Bay
πŸ“ Yarralumla Bay and Yarralumla Beach.

Full results and details are on our website. Click the link in the comments.

12 months ago we started works upgrading the Storm water in the National Rose Gardens. This project expanded to include works for Federation Plaza.

Click on the link in the comments to our Youtube channel to see timelapse videos of how these works occurred – it's better watched in widescreen.
