🚧 A big year for the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal Project!
Since major works began in January, our crews have been busy renewing one of Canberra's most recognisable landmarks.
Some of the significant works over the past 8 months include:
☑️installing more than 17,000 steel reinforcement bars inside the northbound bridge
☑️completed bearing replacement at all four northbound piers
☑️progressed major concrete pours to strengthen the bridge structure
☑️completed piling for future lookout areas
☑️started fabricating 140 precast concrete panels (70 per bridge) that will create wider shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
A lot of this work has happened out of sight, inside and beneath the bridge, but some exciting visible changes are coming soon. In late October (weather permitting) we'll begin installing the new shared path panels and the community will start to see the bridge transform.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out these important works. We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue toward the next major milestone: reopening the renewed northbound bridge in January 2027 and starting works on the southbound bridge.
