We want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible women who keep our brigade and our community running.

To our active firefighters who are mums: thank you for balancing the pager and the family schedule. Whether you’re responding to a call-out in the middle of the night or training on a weekend, your dedication to protecting our community is an inspiration to your kids and to all of us.

To our support members: your work behind the scenes is the backbone of this brigade. From logistics and admin to ensuring we are fed and prepared, we couldn’t do what we do without your tireless effort and care.

And to the wider Molonglo RFS family: to the mums, grandmothers, and maternal figures who support our volunteers from home; thank you for your patience and for being the steady hand while we’re out and off!

Wishing all the mums across our area a safe, relaxing, and very happy Mother’s Day! 💐

As the sun sets on this ANZAC Day, we look back on a day of reflection and remembrance.

For Molonglo RFB - like many other fire brigades and community organisations - this day holds a special significance.

We have a long history of having both active and returned servicemen and women as members, and we are honoured by the dedication and experience they bring to our brigade and the wider community.

Lest We Forget. 🇦🇺

Better late than never? 🚒🤔

You might see "2025 Recap" videos and think we’re four months behind the trend. But for us, the finish line is today. March 31st marks the official end of the Bushfire Danger Period.

This video is a small glimpse into the 2025 season. A massive thank you to our Molonglo Brigade family; the volunteers who stepped up, gave up their time, and protected communities both here at home and interstate and their own families and loved ones who supported them in doing so. 🧡

The season ends, but the brigade continues. The trucks aren't going into hibernation! Over the coming months, you’ll see us out and about focusing on training, hazard reduction burns, and of course responding to incidents - they still happen outside of "the season"!

We’re ready 24/7, 365 days a year.

Heads up Canberra, a prescribed burn is taking place in the Brindabella National Park, west of the ACT. 🔥

You might see or smell smoke throughout the week. The burn is being managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

All burns taking place in the ACT and NSW will be shown on the ACT Emergency Services Agency incident map:
https://esa.act.gov.au/?fullmap=true.

Matching the location of smoke with a current incident means you can confirm emergency services are aware of the fire and attending the scene.

👩‍🚒 Happy International Women’s Day! 🇦🇺

Today, 8 March, marks International Women’s Day (IWD), and we would like to recognise and celebrate the vital role women play within our brigade, their families, and the wider Molonglo Brigade, ACTRFS, Belconnen and Canberra communities.

IWD is a time to acknowledge the women who set a strong example through their dedication, teamwork, and leadership, and to reflect on how we can continue to foster an environment where everyone has an equal seat at the table.

This year’s theme, “Balance the Scales,” focuses on the essential need for gender equity and fair representation. In emergency services, "balancing the scales" means ensuring that women have equal opportunities to lead, train, and contribute; recognising that a balanced team is a more effective, resilient, and capable one.

Molonglo Brigade is incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated group of highly capable women. Their professionalism and reliability are on display in every corner of our operations; on the fireground and around the shed. They take on leadership, mentoring, administrative, and development roles both within our Brigade and the wider service. By stepping into both these core positions and support tasks, they ensure our brigade remains a steady, supportive, and effective team. We are proud to call Molonglo home to so many women who bring such a diverse and vital range of skills to the ACT Rural Fire Service.

To the women of Molonglo Brigade, and to the women across our community: thank you for your effort, skill, and dedication. Your contribution is what keeps the scales in balance and makes a real difference to the safety and strength of the ACT.

A Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) has been declared for the next two days.

⛔️ Thursday, 5 February 2026
⛔️ Friday, 6 February 2026

The forecast Fire Danger Rating is: 🟠 Extreme.

Help us keep Canberra safe by preventing bushfire ignitions.

During a Total Fire Ban it is an offence to:

▪️ Light, maintain or use a fire in the open air.
▪️ Undertake a high-risk activity. These are activities which may cause fire to ignite, which includes hot works such as welding, grinding, soldering and gas cutting.
▪️ Use slashers or harvesting machinery in rural areas.

Firefighters are monitoring conditions and will be on standby to respond to incidents.

The Multicultural Festival has been granted an exemption for charcoal cookers used by stallholders during the total fire ban. The ESA Commissioner is satisfied that Festival organisers have the appropriate risk mitigation measures in place.

Our standup crew today arrived to find a nice little suprise from Community Options waiting for them!

The question is - will anything be left before everyone else shows up for our regular weekly training tonight? 🤔

P.S. Feeling hot? 🥵 Be Emergency Ready and look after yourself and others. For advice on managing the heat check out https://esa.act.gov.au/be-emergency-ready/heatwave

Another standup, another strike team over the border 🚒

Yesterday while stood up due to the extreme fire danger, our Heavy Tanker and Command Unit were tasked to be part of and lead a group of ACT RFS and ACT Parks appliances to help with a fire burning in Bevandale.

All crews returned home just after 0100.

Thanks to those who went and lent a hand, and also those who remained at home in our two Medium Tankers in case anything happened in our local area!

Firefighters have contained a bushfire in Bevendale

How are you spending your triple j ? 🎶 Four of our members are stood up in our Heavy Tanker MLO10. Hope the speakers in the Hino are up to the task 🔊🔊

You may see them cruising around the local area, sheltering in the aircon at the shed or hunting another Zooper Dooper - if you see them, give them a wave! 👋

Don't forget: If you do see a fire without a firetruck in attendance always call 000 ☎️ and only use official sources for incident details and updates. In the ACT, that's the ACT Emergency Services Agency social media channels and website (www.esa.act.gov.au) along with ABC Emergency.
