Nominations for the 2026 CBR Sport Awards are now open!

Each year the Awards celebrate Canberra’s exceptional athletes, teams, coaches, volunteers, and sporting groups. The Awards also recognise outstanding event excellence, innovation or inclusion.

Nominees are recognised across 10 categories including Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, Rising Star as well as the prestigious ACT Sport Hall of Fame.

The eSafety Commissioner is running a free webinar for sport leaders, coaches and managers about cyberbullying and online hate in young people’s sport.

The digital sidelines: Cyberbullying and online hate in young people’s sport is a practical 45-minute session covering:

👉 the different types of cyberbullying and online hate
👉 emerging trends, including the role of AI
👉 practical ways to prevent harm and respond to incidents
👉 resources to help support young people when something does happen

The Matildas are returning to the capital!

This November, our Aussie female soccer stars will go head-to-head with Colombia at GIO Stadium Canberra.

This will be an exciting night of international sport as the teams build momentum ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027.

The Canberra community can have their say about the future of skate culture and infrastructure in the ACT.

The ACT Government has launched the Draft ACT Skate Strategy in collaboration with skating stakeholders, community groups, industry experts and government partners.

The aim of the finalised ACT Skate Strategy will be to deliver a strong framework and pathway for ensuring that skating in the ACT continues to grow in a way that is inclusive, sustainable, strengthens community connection and supports creative expression and wellbeing.

The strategy will also support the promotion of skate culture in the ACT as well as planning, designing, managing and operating skate infrastructure across the Territory.

Skate users from all wheeled disciplines, including BMX riders, are encouraged to read the strategy and give feedback.

The consultation closes on Monday, 5 October 2026.

Due to the wet weather, all ACT Government turf sportsgrounds are closed today (Wednesday 26 August) for all training activity and match play.

Synthetic fields are also closed for training but are OPEN for match play.

Grounds will be reassessed tomorrow to determine if they can re-open.

Congratulations and best of luck to the ACT athletes representing green and gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games!

The ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) has fifteen current and past athletes representing Australia across six sports at these Games.

Cameron Myers, Edward Osei-Nketia, Eliza Ault-Connel, Jaydon Page, Mikaela Dingley, Sam Carter, Sam Rizzo and Tim Fraser (athletics); James Reynolds (lawn bowls); Sienna Toohey, Jasmine Greenwood and Alex Saffy (swimming); Jesse Wagstaff (basketball); Monique Suraci (boxing); Claudia Marcks (cycling – track).

The 2026 Commonwealth Games kick-off overnight in Glasgow with competitions running until Sunday 2 August and will be broadcast live and free on Seven, 7mate and 7plus.
