For the third year in a row, Lochiel Park has been successful in achieving an international Green Flag Award! The Award was announced on 26 November 2021 at the annual Parks and Leisure Australia Conference Awards Ceremony.

Two years ago, Council started flying the Green Flag Award at Lochiel Park after it was the first place in South Australia to receive this international Green Flag Award. The Green Flag Award supports the principle that quality parks are much more than just a beautiful space. Receiving the Green Flag Award demonstrates a park has met a high standard that covers the full spectrum of parkland management from asset management to visitor experience, and curation to sustainability.

To be awarded this accreditation for a third year in a row demonstrates the dedication of the local volunteers and Council Staff who all work tirelessly to maintain the high quality standard. Well done to all and we invite residents and visitors to spend some more time outside enjoying Lochiel Park!

The end of the koalas being housed at this lovely location. Hoping for a happy move to Lenswood. 🤞🏼

URGENT INTERVENTION NEEDED TO PREVENT KOALAS BEING LEFT OUT IN THE COLD

Thank you to Susan Close MP and the media for coming out today to help us tell the story of the incredibly difficult position the State Government has put us in.

The lease on our premises in Campbelltown expires tomorrow, which means our permit expires at that time too.

We have done what the State Government asked and found a new property, however The Department for Environment and Water has refused to give us a permit yet for the new site or allow for any transitional arrangements.

That means we are instead being forced to prematurely release, euthanise, or hand a number of koalas to other wildlife services, which are already overburdened as we head into the busiest time of the year.

This is a devastating situation for our 300 volunteers, and for the koalas we rescue and treat.

We are asking Minister David Speirs MP to show compassion and urgently intervene to grant a temporary bridging permit so that we can continue to treat and rescue koalas until a permit is issued for our new facility in Lenswood.
