The statutory bushfire danger period in the Shoalhaven has come to end on the 31st March.

Landowners in Rural Fire District who undertake vegetation pile burns after this date do not require a fire safety permit - however you still have an obligation to notify the RFS and your neighbours at least 24 hours before you commence burning.

Visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au and click on the NOTIFY portal.

Don’t forget to check the weather forecast; bush and grass fires still occur in Autumn and Winter if conditions are conducive to the ignition and spread of fire.

This morning, Cambewarra was called to a persons trapped MVA on Hughes Road, Illaroo. Thankfully when we arrived, that was not the case. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was able to climb out of the car and after a quick assessment by ambulance crews, there was no need to be transported to Hospital.
A really good outcome and once the vehicle was loaded onto a tow truck, we departed scene for the station.

You should monitor the situation as it is constantly changing.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises a trough is triggering severe thunderstorms in a moist and unstable environment inland of the coast this afternoon and early evening. Supercell thunderstorms have been detected to the northeast of the ACT.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Tablelands districts.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.

Download the Hazards Near Me App and set up ‘Watch Zones’ to receive warnings in real time. https://www.nsw.gov.au/emergency/hazards-near-me-app

For emergency assistance during a flood, storm or tsunami, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

BUSHFIRE SMOKE | Smoke generated by several bushfires in Victoria and north of Sydney is affecting coastal areas including the Shoalhaven.

A convergence of south west and north easterly winds is pushing smoke into our area; there are no bushfires burning within the Shoalhaven.

It’s likely that smoke will linger for a few days. Please only call triple zero ‘000’ if you see a fire.
