Far North Queensland Greens

Far North Queensland Greens Monthly meetings in Cairns The Queensland Greens were founded in March 1992.

Locally-based and independent of corporate interests, we are affiliated with the Queensland Greens and the Australian Greens and part of a worldwide network of Greens parties. Our four guiding principles are:

non-violence
social justice
grass-roots democracy
ecological sustainability

We believe these qualities are essential for human survival and well-being. We re

spectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this country as the first inhabitants, and the custodians of the lands where we live and work. We pay tribute to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and give respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

It's a crying shame large trees like this are being destroyed despite the community outpour.

We need to protect our shade and the trees that make FNQ such a beautiful place to live.

Over the weekend the FNQ Greens joined forces with the community here in Gimuy, Cairns to demand an end to domestic, family, and sexual violence against women at the What Were You Wearing? rally.

We heard from some passionate speakers who highlighted alarming statistics regarding the vulnerability faced by rural, remote, and Indigenous communities. As well as how the services needed to support victim survivors are either stretched to the limit or simply not there within these regions.

Clearly there is work still to be done to bridge these gaps in funding, and to end domestic, family, and sexual violence.

The Greens have a comprehensive plan to address this national crisis, which guarantees women and children have fully funded support services to turn to, as well as prevention work to ensure that future generations are not subjected to the same violence.

Together we must end domestic, family, and sexual violence against women!

Extremely scary laws will be coming into effect under the Albanese government if they are not stopped!

Please write to your local MP to vehemently oppose these laws, and remember, the Greens will never support these laws as we stand for democracy, free speech, and the right to protest.

We are horrified this is even being proposed.

Today was a powerful show of solidarity for the Palestine movement here in Gimuy, Cairns at the Not our Laws - Statewide Action held by Free Palestine FNQ

The Greens condemn the Australian government's continued support of Israel's genocide and illegal wars across the region.

Additionally, we do not support Crisafulli's attack on the people of Queensland by banning pro-Palestine phrases!

We stand for justice, we stand for freedom, and we will not rest until our elected officials no longer bend to the will of a genocidal state, and instead use their power to contribute to a peaceful world for everyone.

Huge win for freedom of speech and democracy in NSW!
Minns' anti-protest laws have been deemed unconstitutional, and so they should be.
Our democracy is hinged on our right to protest and our freedom of speech. It is absolutely abhorrent that police were directed to use such brutal violence to enforce these unconstitutional laws on peaceful protestors! For shame.

We would like to see QLD's new "hate speech" laws challenged in the same way.

There is no pride in genocide, and yet our governments are trying their hardest to hush up the voices calling for peace and to end Australia's complicity in Israel's insatiable bloodshed.

Well, we will not be silent, and the Greens will never stop fighting for the power of humanity!

The actions of Israel and the USA are despicable. Innocent civilians across Palestine, Iran, and Lebanon are paying the price with their lives, meanwhile the Albanese government expresses their "deep concern".

Well, concern is not going to cut it Albo! The rest of us are in shock and disbelief that war crimes continue unabated, while the cost of living sky rockets for the average Australian. It's well past time we sanctioned Israel and ended AUKUS.

Time to put your money where your mouth is Albo, instead of these empty platitudes.

Our thoughts are with everyone who may be impacted by severe and dangerous category 5 cyclone Narelle! We hope everyone manages to stay safe!

Remember to check the BoM for updates and look out for your neighbours, especially those who are vulnerable, isolated or may need help evacuating.

Unfortunately Australia is increasingly exposed to destructive supercharged storms, which gain increased power as the ocean temperatures rise. The Coral Sea is susceptible to marine heatwaves via the mechanisms of climate change, making the Far North Queensland coast and its communities at heightened risk of these events.

Stay safe, FNQ πŸ’šπŸ’™

Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle remains at category 5 strength east of the Cape York Peninsula and is moving westwards towards the Queensland coast.

Narelle is forecast to cross the Queensland coast between Lockhart River and Cape Melville on Friday morning as a category 5 cyclone.

Narelle will bring severe impacts to Far North Qld during Friday and to the eastern Northern Territory on the weekend.

Current: 4:41pm EST Thursday 19 March 2026.
