Heartbreaking and something we need to talk more about.
This certainly aligns with the critical shifts for change highlighted in the work of the Collaborative.
Important to read, understand and act.

New research from ANROWS reveals a devastating truth: around half of women in Australia who die by su***de have experienced domestic and family violence.

The research also found:
🔹 Around 15 women die by su***de every week in Australia
🔹 Up to 56% had experienced domestic and family violence
🔹 Coercive control is common, including su***de threats used as a tactic of abuse
🔹 Children exposed to violence face significantly higher risks of self-harm
🔹 Many women seek help before crisis, but gaps between services mean opportunities to intervene are often missed

At Women’s Legal Service Queensland, we see how violence intersects with mental health, financial insecurity, and complex legal systems.

Together with Women’s Legal Services Australia, we contributed to the Senate inquiry into domestic violence and su***de - calling for a more coordinated, trauma-informed response.

Domestic and family violence is not just physical. It impacts mental health, safety, and wellbeing. Preventing violence is su***de prevention.

If we are serious about saving lives, we must respond to the full picture - and ensure no woman is left to navigate this alone.

Culture sits at the heart of life promotion, healing and system change.

Join us for our March First Nations Collaborative gathering, where we will centre the conversation on culture as a foundation for wellbeing and su***de prevention.

Together we will:
• Highlight culture as a key determinant of wellbeing and su***de prevention
• Elevate lived experience and community knowledge
• Explore how systems and services can better support cultural healing practices
• Strengthen relationships across the collaborative

Join the conversation.

The Life Promotion and Su***de Prevention FNQ Collaborative is hosting the third in our series of interactive discussions exploring the National Su***de Prevention Strategy Outcomes Framework.

These sessions create space to pause, reflect and think together about how the Framework can support shared understanding, guide meaningful action and strengthen collaboration across our region.

Together we’ll explore:
• How current activities align with the Framework
• Where there may be opportunities to deepen impact or work differently
• How partnerships and collective action can support better outcomes over time

Whether you’re working in su***de prevention, supporting wellbeing in your community, or simply interested in learning and contributing — your perspective is welcome.

🚨 We’re hiring in Far North Queensland — 1 week to go!

Life Promotion and Su***de Prevention FNQ is expanding — and we’re looking for two Project Coordinators to join our team.

These roles will focus on strengthening collaboration, supporting community-led initiatives and driving coordinated su***de prevention efforts across the region.

We are currently recruiting for:

📍 Project Coordinator — Cairns and Hinterland: https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0FMcX0
📍 Project Coordinator — Torres and Cape: https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0FMBn0

Both roles are grounded in place-based prevention. We are particularly interested in candidates who have strong knowledge of their region — either through living locally or through established networks and relationships across community and services.

Our work aligns closely with NQPHN’s Joint Regional Plan, particularly the commitment to delivering “the right support, in the right place, at the right time.” This means a strong focus on prevention, early intervention, and strengthening local partnerships.

If you are passionate about community, collaboration and systems change — we’d love to hear from you.

Please share within your networks — you never know who might be the perfect fit.
