In life threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000). NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. We are a volunteer-based organisation that provides emergency assistance to the people of NSW 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It is the approximately 9,000 volunteers across the state that make this possible. NSW SES

Volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them many different skills, interests and backgrounds. They are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm emergencies, NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes:
Road accident rescue
Vertical rescue
Bush search and rescue
Evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of NSW. The organisations trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. NSW SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us over the weekend!

We really appreciated the assistance received from our neighbouring NSW SES units, as we worked together to respond to the impacts of the wild weather across Sydney.

It was certainly a busy weekend for our volunteers, and the teamwork and support between units made a huge difference. 💪🧡

Today is all about celebrating the amazing dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures who give so much to their families and the communities.

And while many dads today are enjoying breakfast in bed and a well-earned sleep-in, some of our NSW SES dads are spending their Father’s Day a little differently. They’re out again today lending a hand and helping our community recover from yesterday’s storm event.

So if you see any of our members out in the field today, be sure to give them a wave and wish them a Happy Father’s Day! 👋

It’s been a busy evening for the team following the recent storm and wind event this afternoon, with our NSW SES volunteers currently out and about attending to jobs across the community. 💪

We've Been Quiet... But We've Been Busy! 🧡

You might not have heard from us for a little while, but behind the scenes it's been anything but quiet!

On Friday, our members were proud to attend the Victory in the Pacific commemorative event, joining our community to honour those who served and sacrificed during WWII. It was a privilege to pay our respects and be part of such a meaningful occasion.

The weekend didn't slow down either, with several of our volunteers undertaking a Drive Operational Vehicle (DOV) Course. From classroom learning to practical driving, we're building the skills needed to safely respond when our community needs us most.

Whether we're out in the community, training, or preparing for the next call-out, our volunteers are always putting in the work behind the scenes!

🚨A nationwide test of the new national warning system AusAlert is happening this Monday 27 July 2026. Here's what you need to know.

On Monday 27 July 2026, we’re testing Australia’s new national warning system AusAlert.

An AusAlert test message will be sent to all compatible mobile devices across Australia at the same time. Depending on your location, you may receive the alert between 11am and 2pm local time. The test will occur during school hours in all states and territories.

AusAlert messages may appear on the phones, tablets and smart watches of children and teens. Apple iPads will not receive AusAlerts.

To prepare for AusAlert, parents, carers and guardians should help children understand:
📱 what AusAlert is.
⚠️what alerts mean.
✅ what to do if they receive an alert.

You may have already received information from your school about AusAlert testing. Follow your school’s advice about phone and device use.

Emergency alerts might be unfamiliar or unsettling for some young people. Our resources for parents, carers and students explain AusAlert and provide support information. Link in the comments. 👇

UPDATE: Telstra have advised that services should now be restored. If your Telstra device is still experiencing connectivity issues, please power the device off and then back on.

NSW SES is aware of a widespread Telstra outage impacting mobile customers on Wednesday 8 July.

The NSW SES remains operational and ready to respond to incidents.

🔸 There is no impact to our 132 500 phone line.

Members of the public may have connectivity issues with a Telstra device and are encouraged to call from a different carrier, landline or a neighbours phone.

🏆A NIGHT OF EXCELLENCE🏆

Earlier this week, our unit came together for our bi-annual Awards Night, celebrating the dedication, commitment, and achievements of our members.

Congratulations to everyone who received awards and reached significant milestones, including Peter Turner (20 Years of Service), Ross Weller (National Medal and 15 Years of Service), and Jayke Stanton and Vannara Tan (10 Years of Service). We also had the privilege of recognising members who were awarded their Flood Citations and celebrating the achievements of our newest Senior Operators, Operators, and Job Ready members as they officially joined their respective ranks.

We’d also like to extend a big thank you to David Saliba MP, Councillor Kevin Lam - City of Fairfield, our Deputy Local Commander Andrew Hubbard, and our Zone Commander Andrew Dadley for joining us to celebrate the evening.

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize the extraordinary people who are there for us in our times of need.

Whether responding to emergencies, providing lifesaving care, protecting our neighborhoods, or offering calm in moments of crisis, first responders serve our communities with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Their commitment helps make our communities stronger, safer, and more connected.

To all first responders and their families: thank you. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the comfort you provide, and the difference you make in countless lives every single day.
