Byron Bay: At 12:46am, our crew was dispatched to reports of a house fire.
On arrival, firefighters found smoke throughout the home after food had been left cooking in the oven and the occupant had fallen asleep. Fortunately, a working smoke alarm activated, alerting the occupant and neighbours.
This incident serves as an important reminder:
🚨 Never leave cooking unattended!
🚨 Make sure you have working smoke alarms installed and test them regularly.
🚨 Be mindful of where you park. During this incident, a vehicle was parked over a fire hydrant, preventing immediate access to a vital water supply. Fire hydrants play a critical role during emergencies, and keeping them clear can save valuable time when firefighters are responding.
Thankfully, this incident was resolved before it could develop into something far more serious.
