🚒 COLLECTION DAY IS NEARING AND WE'RE COMING FOR YOUR LOOSE CHANGE! 🚒🔥

Perth, are you ready?

This Friday 15 May, over 100 volunteer bush firefighters will be taking over the streets of the CBD for our Annual Metropolitan Bush Fire Brigade Street Appeal!

We're coming in uniform, with big smiles, and an even bigger goal, to raise funds that help our local brigades stay trained, equipped, and ready to protect communities across WA.

And yes, before you ask... 💳 WE NOW ACCEPT EFTPOS.
No cash? No worries. Tap and go, Perth. We've entered the 21st century and we're not looking back. 😄

👋 Come say hello, meet the everyday legends who run toward the flames when others run away.
📸 Snap a selfie with a firefighter, it's not every day the city fills with yellow and blue!
💰 Make a donation, every dollar helps, and we accept cash OR card.

We know not everyone is in the City on a Friday, and we completely understand. But if you can make it in, we would absolutely love to see you. We will be there all day, so whether you're popping in for a morning coffee or winding down after work, come find us and show your local brigade some love.

Your support helps us stay prepared, stay equipped, and stay safe, for you and for your community.

Let's make this year's appeal our biggest yet!

Let's make some noise, Perth. We'll see you in the City this Friday!

Are you planning a burn on your property?

SJ is now in our restricted burning period, which means time to clean up the paddock and get rid of the garden waste, leaf litter and dead vegetation that could be a fire risk during bushfire season.

- Individual burn piles should be no more than 1m3

- Burn only one pile at a time

- Don’t burn if winds exceed 15 km/h

- Clear the area around the burn pile to 5m

- Never leave a fire unattended

- No burning on Sundays or public holidays

Be a good neighbour and let nearby residents know when you’re planning a burn – some people have health issues that can be affected by smoke.

Stay safe!

Note: 1mx1m pile burns are permitted on all days when the Fire Danger Rating is moderate or below. Permit burns are also not permitted on Sundays and public holidays.

🚒🔥 February 28 – National Thank a Firefighter Day 🔥🚒

If you see our volunteers out and about — on the trucks, at training, or around town — feel free to give us a wave. We always appreciate the encouragement.

Thank you, to the community for backing your local brigades ❤️

Your support means more to our firies than you realise 🥹🔥

Today, on Thank a Firey Day, show some love to the legends who run towards danger to keep our loved ones safe 💙

In the past year alone, our career and volunteer firefighters have responded to over 5,700 bushfires, 3,300 road crash rescues, 1,400 structure fires and countless other emergencies across the State, but the numbers don’t tell the full story.

Behind every call-out are hundreds of hours of training, missed family moments and relentless sacrifices, the early starts and quiet acts that often go unseen, like comforting someone on their worst day, teaching kids about fire safety, helping families who’ve lost everything or checking in on a mate doing it tough.

It takes courage, dedication and heart to do this job. It’s a tough gig and they do it to protect their community – time and time again.

Safe Tradies & DIY

Fire risks from welding, grinding & outdoor hot works

Sparks from welding, grinding, or cutting can ignite dry grass, leaf litter, or nearby materials within seconds.
Avoid undertaking hot works on days with High Fire Danger Ratings or above.
Always clear the area of flammable materials before starting work.
Keep firefighting equipment close by. A hose, extinguisher or water source can stop a small spark becoming a fire.
Stay at least 30 minutes after finishing to check for hidden smouldering spots.
If the weather becomes hot, windy, or dry, postpone your work. Conditions can change rapidly.

DFES permits & safety guidelines

Some hot works require a permit depending on the location, time of year and local fire conditions.
Check DFES and local government guidelines before starting any hot work outdoors.
Ensure everyone on site understands the conditions of the permit, including supervision, spark control, and suppression equipment.
On a Total Fire Ban Day, it is illegal to light an open-air fire or conduct any activity that could start a fire. For a full list of prohibited activities, visit the DFES website.

Safe use of power tools & lithium-ion batteries.
https://dfes.wa.gov.au/hazard-information/fire-in-the-home/lithium-ion-batteries

Lithium‑ion batteries are increasingly linked to house and shed fires.
Always use the charger supplied with the device.
Charge batteries on hard, non‑flammable surfaces, away from sleeping areas.
Replace damaged, swollen, or overheating batteries immediately.
Don’t leave tools or batteries in hot vehicles or direct sunlight.
Store batteries away from flammable liquids and materials.

Let’s take action this month!

Stay aware:

Use tools safely:
Choose cooler times of day for outdoor work and avoid high‑risk weather.

Refresh your plan:
Does your household know what to do if a fire starts while you’re working outside?
Check in with your community:
Support tradies, hobbyists, and neighbours by sharing safe‑work messages.
Seek support:
Your local CPA or the Community Preparedness Directorate can assist with resources or engagement ideas.

Every safe decision you make while working outdoors helps protect your home, your neighbours, and your community.
