64-year-old man charged following alleged mail theft and fraud investigation – Burwood

A 64-year-old man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged theft of mail and subsequent fraudulent use of bank cards in Burwood.

Police will allege that on 20 August 2026, the man entered a residential building on Railway Parade, Burwood, and stole mail from multiple mailboxes after gaining access to secured areas of the complex.

It is further alleged that bank cards obtained during the incident were subsequently used to make unauthorised purchases at a retail store in Sydney's inner west.

Following inquiries, including a review of CCTV footage, police located the man in Burwood on 24 August 2026. During a search, officers allegedly located bank cards, cheques and other identity-related documents belonging to other people.

Police further allege property linked to one of the unauthorised transactions was recovered during the investigation.

The man was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station, where further inquiries were conducted.

He was charged with:

Steal property in dwelling-house
Goods in personal custody suspected stolen (not m/v /vessel)
Possess identity info to commit etc indictable offence – T1
Dishonestly obtain property by deception – T1

The man was granted bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on 15 September 2026.

Two men injured during altercation - Five Dock

Two men have been hospitalised after an alleged assault in Sydney inner west.

About 8pm yesterday (Sunday 6 September 2026), emergency services responded to reports of an assault outside a home on Ingham Avenue, Five Dock.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated two males aged 19 and 36 at the scene before they were taken to hospital.

The younger man is listed as being in a critical condition with the other man in a serious condition. Both are listed as being stable.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command have been informed that the older man was the alleged resident of a home on Ingham Avenue when the younger man in company with a man and woman – also aged 36 – and a 63-year-old man attended the premises.

An altercation has then allegedly occurred.

All parties are believed to be known to one another.

A crime scene was established where officers seized a pole at the location which will undergo forensic examination.

Police arrested the 36 and 63-year-old man at the scene where they have been taken to Burwood Police Station where inquiries are ongoing.

Three men present to hospital with knife wounds - Canterbury

Three men with knife wounds have attended a hospital in Sydney’s south west.

Between midnight and about 1.20am today (Monday 7 September 2026), three men – each at different times – have presented to Canterbury Hospital with stab wounds.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics were contacted who attended the hospital.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the three men aged 24, 23 and 18 where they were conveyed to trauma hospitals in the Sydney metropolitan area.

The two men aged 24 and 23 are in a serious but stable condition. The third man is in a stable condition.

Police have been informed the three men were involved in an altercation outside a fast food outlet on the corner of Canterbury Road and Fore Street.

Crime scenes have been established at this location and at Canterbury Hospital.

P1 DRIVER DETECTED TRAVELLING AT 125KM/H IN AN 80KM/H ZONE

About 12:54am on Saturday 29 August 2026, police attached to Burwood Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties on Homebush Bay Drive near the intersection of Settlers Boulevard, Concord West, when they detected a vehicle travelling at 125km/h in the signposted 80km/h zone.

Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, a P1 licence holder, who allegedly stated, "maybe 90?" when questioned about their speed.

The driver was issued with an infringement notice for the offence of P1 driver exceed speed limit over 30km/h, attracting a penalty of $1,163 and 5 demerit points.

Speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes on NSW roads. Slow down, stay safe and arrive alive.

🏡 THE COTTAGE IS OFFICIALLY OPEN

On Wednesday 2 September, we officially opened The Cottage in Ashfield - an important new partnership between NSW Police and the Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC).

Located alongside Ashfield Police Station, The Cottage provides a safe and welcoming place where women and children experiencing domestic and family violence can access specialist support, information, safety planning and referrals - alongside the existing police response.

The Cottage is particularly focused on making support accessible to our diverse and multicultural communities and strengthening the pathways between police and specialist domestic and family violence services.

This partnership brings support closer to people at a time when taking that first step can be incredibly difficult.

Thank you to WAGEC and everyone who has worked to make The Cottage a reality. 💜
