With winter quickly approaching, our local area is experiencing a rapid increase in dry conditions and fire fuel loads. As you plan to use outdoor fire pits for warmth and cooking, it is critical to prioritize safety by reviewing and strictly complying with current Queensland Fire Department regulations.

To ensure compliance and community safety, please note the following key guidelines:
• Open-air fires on private property must not exceed two meters in all directions to avoid requiring a specific permit.
• Fires must be positioned safely away from all flammable items.
• Always extinguish fires completely with water, rather than using sand.
• Be aware that all fires for warmth and cooking are generally prohibited during declared fire bans unless explicitly permitted by the Commissioner.
We urge all residents to review the full safety guidelines to ensure a safe fire season.

It’s Volunteer Week, so we thought we’d explain why we wear funny hats, work odd hours and do it all for no pay.

Simple really. Life is about what you give, not what you get.

Like volunteers in every corner of the community, we show up because we can help. The funny hats are just a bonus; we reckon they suit us.

We’re here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, because volunteering is about service, giving back and being there when it matters.

We’re not superheroes, we’re ordinary people with day jobs, chasing the kids to school, too much housework, bad jokes and FIRECALLS that always seem to go off when you sit down for a drink with mates.

As a wise person said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

This week, please say thank you to every volunteer. From the amazing people at Meals on Wheels, to the support at weekend sports games, and so many more, we’re grateful for all of you, even if your uniform is less stylish than ours.”
