Burnie City Council

Burnie City Council Working together to make Burnie a vibrant and progressive community Why does Burnie Council have a page?

Burnie City Council’s page exists to provide information on Council initiatives, events, programs and news. It is used as an important tool for Council to actively engage with the community, serving as a place for discussion, enquiries and an active exchange of ideas. For the most prompt response we still encourage individuals to contact Council on (03) 64305 700 for specific enquiries.

⚖️ 615kg of rubbish removed in 1 week !! 👏

Over four separate classes, Hellyer College Outdoor Education students helped remove an incredible 615kg of rubbish from local waterways, helping protect threatened species and other wildlife that call these areas home.

This marks three years of partnership between Hellyer College and Burnie City Council, with an impressive 1.5 tonnes of rubbish removed in total 😮💚 !

The students aren't stopping there either - this week they'll be lending a hand with revegetation works at Romaine Reserve.🌱

A huge thank you to the students and staff at Hellyer College for their ongoing commitment to caring for our local environment.

Burnie City Council will be lighting the Council Offices teal 🩵 to recognise Thank a First Responder Day

On Wednesday 10 June 2026, communities across Australia will come together to recognise and thank the incredible first responders who protect and care for us, as well as the families and loved ones who support them.

Whether responding to fires, floods, road accidents, or medical emergencies, our first responders are there when we need them most.

Ordinary people. Extraordinary spirit.

Join us in saying two simple words to our first responders: Thank you. ❤️

Thank a First Responder Day is an initiative of Fortem Australia, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of first responders and their families.

🚧 Road Safety Improvements Coming to Brooklyn Road

Kindly be advised that works to improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians on Brooklyn Road will commence on Monday 15 June.

The project includes the construction of new kerb and channel, a widened footpath, a new pedestrian crossing, and the application of a high-friction road surface treatment.

Works are expected to take approximately 8–10 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Traffic management and partial lane closures will be in place during construction.

We thank the community for their patience and ask all road users to please take care and follow all traffic management signage and reduced speed limits.

💨 Is your recycling bin lid prone to lifting on windy collection days?

To help keep recyclables where they belong, Burnie City Council has received a limited number of FREE recycling bin latches thanks to our partners at the Cradle Coast Waste Management Group (CCWMG).

The clever latch keeps your yellow-lid recycling bin securely closed in windy conditions, but automatically releases when the collection truck lifts and empties the bin.

To collect a FREE latch:

✅ Visit the Council Office
✅ Scan the QR code at the Customer Service desk and register your details
✅ Fit the latch using the supplied instructions

Numbers are limited and available while stocks last.

Let's work together to keep our streets, parks, and waterways free from litter 🌱♻️
