[THE REAL LESSON FROM THE BRITS] The common thread of populism is that they sieze a problem, bend the facts and offer a fake solution which self-explodes over time. When exposed, they evade responsibility and grab another lie.

Many would have forgotten that Reform UK is a legacy of the Brexit Party. Now a majority of Brits regret they had chosen Brexit and condemned the UK to a decade of decline. So Reform moved on and chose mass immigration as another big lie.

Now One Nation is copying the Reform playbook. Will they succeed? It's probably too much to claim that Aussies are smarter than the Brits but at least we have the advantage of time before the next election - as the fake solutions made up by populists collapse one by one in front of our eyes, just like MAGA.

Yet there's one serious lesson we can learn now from the Brits - Don't be complacent with populism. It inflicts long lasting and irreversible damage.

Right-wing populism is rising in the UK where, like Australia, the political landscape is looking very different lately. It has prompted some people to ask if these surging parties can deliver on their promises.

The NDIS changed lives. It gave people with disability real choice and independence.
The NDIS Amendment Bill in its current form puts all of that at risk. Restricting supports and narrowing eligibility is not reform, it is a step backwards.
