Birds Down Under Laura Challiss Kneebone

Art in the Library Exhibition 21st July – 9th August
Opening Wednesday 23rd 6pm @ Bundeena P.S Scarborough St

A sense of place is central to Laura Challiss Kneebone’s practice as an artist. She now calls Maianbar home and living surrounded by the Royal National Park profoundly shapes her creative process. Constantly observing and reflecting on her surrounds then translating her influences into rich and vibrant images. For Laura, colour is an energy that resonates on an emotional level, transporting the viewer to a place where reality and imagination intertwine.
Driven by a diverse palette of materials her work is full of colour and texture, resonating with the constant bird song she witnesses. Her show ‘Birds down Under’ delivers a personal investigation into this world with a quirky play on words.

A statement by the artist.
Drawings can whisper or be a trumpet...
They murmur potential or shout an emphatic position.
Drawings are immediate open and exploratory...
I like drawings which are not definitive and suggest new potential.
I like drawings which only need to be looked at to be understood.
My drawings are automatic, intuitive, exploratory, incomplete and sometimes complete.

Opening on Wednesday!
Art in the library is here again, longstanding Bundeena artist Christopher Lawrie will be showing works on paper from his series 'The History of Salt ...' as well as new abstract works.

Christopher Lawrie
Art in the Library, opening 27 November 7-8.30, runs to Sat 11 January 2025.

Christopher Lawrie has resided in Bundeena since 1990, and during that time has worked on projects involving a variety of media. He has exhibited these works in Bundeena, Sutherland Shire and Sydney, including twice winning the Local Artist Award at the Hazelhurst Work on Paper Award.

'The History of Salt ...' has comprised over many years salted books, vintage images and book pages, videos and prints, relating to the history of immigration by sea to Australia. A more recent series of works is inspired by abstract drawings originally made in the 1970s.

The Library works on paper will include prints based on 'The History of Salt ...' and also recent prints based on early abstract compositions and installations.
