Bunbury Volunteer Bushfire Brigade

Bunbury Volunteer Bushfire Brigade To provide the general public with information relating to Bunbury Bushfire Brigade, including emergencies, hazard reduction and other general information.

Bunbury Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade was established in 1985 by a handful of local gentlemen. They worked hard to establish the Brigade and gain support from the City of Bunbury to recognise and support a Volunteer Fire Brigade movement in the Bunbury area. In these first few years they worked tirelessly conducting hazard reduction burns around the Bunbury and Australind area to gain funds for the

Brigade to be able to purchase its own fire fighting appliance. The City of Bunbury Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade is responding to the changing environment. Fire suppression and prevention are strongly linked, and the Brigade works closely with the City of Bunbury Community Law and Safety Department to provide information and advice on fire preparedness and prevention. The Brigade regularly assists the City of Bunbury And DFES Mitigation Dept with hazard reduction in and around the Bunbury area. Fires in a Rural Urban interface environment are becoming more common and the Brigade prides itself on keep its knowledge and skills up to date to help protect the Community and Brigade members in the most effective ways possible.

Incident Ready: Fireground is a brand-new approach to brigade training.

Designed as a tabletop and practical training tool, IR combines the unpredictability of real-world incidents with structured, measurable training outcomes in a controlled and discussion-driven environment.

Utilising four different card types, IR covers a wide range of incidents including:
• Vehicle fires and crashes
• Bushfires
• Electrical fires
• Rubbish fires
• And more

With scenarios suitable for all skill levels, brigade types and training nights, IR is designed to be flexible and adaptable to your brigade’s individual needs.

Alongside standard incident cards, IR also includes inject and challenge cards to keep crews on their toes, encourage discussion, and push decision-making, communication and situational awareness under pressure.

To further support realistic tabletop exercises, IR also incorporates simplified IMT-style paperwork and facilitation tools to help drive engaging and thought-provoking training sessions.

Best of all — there’s no single “correct” way to use Incident Ready. Whether used for quick drills, structured tabletop exercises or broader brigade discussions, IR is built to support practical and meaningful operational learning.

Incident Ready: Fireground is currently in pre-production, with testing and refinement already underway ahead of an anticipated launch in the coming months.

While you’re checking your place now the storm has passed, check those smoke alarms while you’re at it 👍🏻

🚨 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 🚨

This June, we're joining DFES and communities across Australia for Smoke Alarm Action Day – because only working smoke alarms save lives.

Take a few moments today to:

✅ Test your smoke alarms
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Check expiry dates (most alarms last around 10 years)
✅ Make sure everyone in the home knows what to do if an alarm sounds

Working smoke alarms provide early warning and can make all the difference in an emergency.

Test it. Don’t guess. 🔥🏠

We hope you are all staying safe in and around Bunbury. Stay inside if possible, reports of a lot of projectiles in this wind and trees coming down.
Stay inside, nice and dry and safe!
See below some info if you need help during the storm.

🌧️🌬️ Lock 'em down, Bunbury! 🌧️🌬️

A Severe thunderstorm forecast for this weekend, and we are in for a proper lashing. Heavy rain, damaging winds, and potential storms are on the radar.

This means it is time to secure any loose items around the yard. And yes, we are looking directly at you, Trampoline. We know you’ve been eyeing the neighbor’s fence line all summer, but this is not your weekend to fly the coop. Tie it down, flip it over, or anchor it—let's keep the aerial acrobatics to a minimum.

If you're out on the roads, keep your headlights on. And remember, if you see emergency flashing lights - whether it’s our red trucks or our mates from the SES, the law requires you to slow down to 40 km/h. Give crews the space they need to work safely.

Stay safe, stay dry, and keep your backyard furniture grounded.

An important part of being a Volunteer Firefighter. Looking after the gear that keeps you safe. Cleaning the vehicles is part of removing toxins or at least limiting the exposure inside the truck, washing it means taking pride but also checking for damage, or anything else that might need attention. Clean windows so you can see exactly where you are going, especially when driving ‘fire call’ to keep us and everyone else safe on the roads. An extra 30 minutes after a job is totally worth the effort.
