NOONGAR COUNTRY 2027 / Expression of Interest
Aboriginal artists are invited to share their stories, voices and creative practices as part of the 2027 Noongar Country exhibition.

Curator Candice Nannup shared, "This exhibition is about healing our koort (heart) and our boodja (Country). It is a space for us to come together, share our experiences, honour our culture and tell the stories that matter to our communities. At the heart of the exhibition is truth-telling."

All Aboriginal artists living on Noongar Boodja who work in artistic practices, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, textiles, weaving, installation, digital, contemporary, and traditional practices, are welcome to apply to exhibit in the 2027 exhibition.

๐ŸŽจ An exciting opportunity has opened at Wardandi Wanil Art Centre!

We are seeking an Aboriginal Youth Engagement Facilitator to help deliver the Noongar Arts Fashion Youth Program during Term 4, 2026.

This rewarding role will support Aboriginal young people aged 16 to 24 to connect with culture, build confidence and explore creative pathways through fashion and cultural expression. Working alongside Elders, artists and industry professionals, you'll help coordinate workshops, mentor participants and support them as they prepare for the Noongar Arts Fashion Show.

This program is made possible by funding and support from Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people, building connections and creating culturally safe opportunities for the next generation.

Enjoy an afternoon of conversations with South West Survey artists Lyn Nixon, Deidre Robb and James Walker at Holmes a Court Gallery this Saturday.

As part of the inaugural 'South West Biennial 2026: Tracework', the Survey brings together 28 artists from across WA's south western regions to explore the idea of trace through marks, memory, material, place and connection.

SOUTH WEST SURVEY / Holmes ร  Court Gallery
Part of the South West Biennial, the Survey offers a snapshot of contemporary regional practice from artists living and working across south western regions. The collection responds to the physical and cultural landscapes of regional Western Australia, a place as diverse as the artists and works produced here. Some works attend to material and process, others to image, story or memory. Some emerge from daily routines or long-term observation, others from specific sites, events or conditions.

Brought together in one place, the Survey invites works to sit alongside one another, allowing shared concerns and points of friction to surface across materials, environments, and lived experiences. Within the Biennialโ€™s framework of Tracework, attention is given to marks, impressions, and forms of contact: gestures repeated over time, traces of labour, and the ways artists register their surrounds through making.

After closing at BRAG, the Survey travelled north to the Holmes a Court Gallery in West Perth, carrying regional practice into a metropolitan context.

ON NOW / Iluka Visions 2026
Now in its 35th year, Iluka Visions is BRAG's annual exhibition dedicated to student artists from South West high schools, giving them the opportunity many artists dream of: seeing their work professionally displayed in a public gallery, often for the very first time.

This year's exhibition spans painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, wearable art, photography, video and mixed media, offering a genuine snapshot of how young people in the South West are seeing and responding to the world around them.

For many students, Iluka Visions is more than just an exhibition. Selected works are judged by a panel of arts professionals and go into the running for a range of category awards as well as overall prizes, giving students a taste of what it's like to have their work critiqued and celebrated in a competitive, professional setting.

Since 1991, countless West Australian artists and arts workers have pointed to Iluka Visions as their first real gallery experience, the moment that showed them a creative career was possible.

Iluka Visions 2026 is now on display at BRAG until Sunday, 15 November 2026.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE / Introducing Michelle Over
We're delighted to welcome Michelle Over as our next Artist in Residence, joining us from August 2026 to October 2026 through the Pivot Artist Development Program.

Michelle's expressive paintings explore the rhythms of everyday life, drawing inspiration from ordinary moments and the people who inhabit them. Working with bold colour and an intuitive approach, her practice reflects a longstanding interest in capturing the spirit of contemporary life.

Michelle will soon be welcoming visitors who are interested in learning more about her practice, creative process, and the work she's developing during her residency. If you see the door of the Residence Studio open on your next visit to BRAG, make sure to pop in and say hello.

Iluka Visions is BRAGโ€™s annual high school exhibition showcasing the depth of talent and creativity in the arts from secondary schools across the South West region.

The 2026 exhibition includes works in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, wearable art, photography, video, and mixed media. Ranging in content from current social and political issues, to personal reflections on the human condition, to fan art and pure creative invention.

Now in its 35th year, many West Australian artists and arts workers can trace their first gallery experience back to Visions. BRAG is honoured to host this extraordinary exhibition that caters to our arts education community, young people, and aspiring artists of all ages.

๐˜—๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ข๐˜ณ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ/๐˜•๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ต ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฌ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต is an immersive exhibition of large-scale screen-printed works by 15 Indonesian and Australian artists exploring the transgressive allure and vibrant energy of the Indonesian night market.

At the night market, you can buy fake Rolex watches, fried grasshoppers and amulets with โ€œmagicalโ€ powers. Skinny guys with tattoos operate carnival rides that definitely arenโ€™t safe. Thereโ€™s a haunted house and a giant python. Gangsters, pickpockets and revolutionaries lurk in the shadows. The morning market is for groceries and gossip, but the night market is the world turned upside down, where our repressed fears and desires are set loose.

In keeping with the slightly seedy, mysterious, and precarious night markets of Java, the exhibition is designed to be an immersive and engaging experience. Visitors will navigate a crowded, colourful space where 15 artists bring the chaos and permissiveness of the Night Market to life.

With each new location on Pasar Malam's journey, the teams from Krack studio and 16albermarle Project Space make a few tweaks, giving each venue its own character and creating a fresh, ever-changing experience. For BRAG, the team has added another layer of colour and nostalgia to the exhibition by lining the video tent with two new film posters. Created by two artists in their 70s, Pak Yoyok and Pak Sambodo painted movie billboards in Yogyakarta, Indonesia during the 1980s and brought their skills back to life for the Bunbury leg of the exhibition's Australian tour.
