💚 Generations of memories, all in one special place 💚

We recently received this beautiful feedback from a visitor who shared memories of bringing their grandchildren to Bunbury Wildlife Park, describing it as their favourite day out.

Remembering the excitement of finding and feeding the animals, chatting with the parrots in the walk-through aviary, and spending time at the playground afterwards.

What a privilege it is to be part of so many family traditions and treasured childhood memories.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Bunbury Wildlife Park over the years. Whether you've visited with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or simply for your own love of wildlife, you're part of the story that makes this place so special. 🦘🐍🦜

We’re feeling incredibly grateful for the support our community continues to show our Park 💚

While our main building remains closed, the heart of Bunbury Wildlife Park has never stopped beating. Our dedicated keepers continue to provide exceptional care for our animals every day and visitors are still enjoying up-close wildlife experiences, daily Keeper Talks, and some exciting new additions to the Park.

If you've been wondering about the building closure and the work happening behind the scenes, the City of Bunbury has shared an update below with more information on the structural issues identified earlier this year and the progress being made.

We’re proud of everything our team has achieved over the past few months and look forward to welcoming you to experience the park for yourself. 🦘🦜🦎

🌿 Update on Bunbury Wildlife Park 🌿

While we continue to manage the main building closure, we wanted to share what’s actually been happening at the park – because the Wildlife Park is so much more than one building.

Earlier this year, a concealed termite infestation was identified within the main building structure during routine on-site works. The damage, hidden within walls and roof spaces, had caused significant structural deterioration that was not detectable through standard maintenance activities. Following confirmation through structural assessment, the City acted immediately – closing the building, safely relocating all animals, and commissioning detailed assessments.

We communicated the building closure and structural issues immediately. As assessments have progressed, we are now providing the community with more detail about the cause.

But here’s the part we’re really proud of, our incredible team has used this time to transform the park experience 💚

✅ Established a new park entrance – designed as a fully integrated visitor arrival experience
✅ Park grounds rejuvenated (new enclosures, refreshed exhibits, and some exciting new residents, including an adorable family of Squirrel Gliders 🐿️)
✅ Conservation programs thriving, including our breeding and species management initiatives
✅ Keeper Talks running daily – included in your entry fee
✅ Overwhelmingly positive visitor feedback

The building is infrastructure. The Wildlife Park is the animals, the keepers, the conservation, and you – our community. And right now, it’s thriving.
Thank you for your continued support. Come see for yourself!

🐾🌿 Bunbury Wildlife Park – clean-up update 🌿🐾
Our team is hard at work getting the Park back in shape, and they’re doing an amazing job.

The storm left us with a lot of fallen trees and debris, and it’s a bigger job than first expected.

Once trees are cleared, fencing and other infrastructure needs to be repaired too. We’re also being mindful of our animals – continuous chainsaw work is stressful for them, so our crew is working in smaller blocks to keep our residents as calm and comfortable as possible.

To give the team time to do the job properly and safely, we’ve pushed our reopening back to Saturday.

We know it’s a longer wait than we first hoped – thanks for bearing with us 💚

The good news? We’ll be back open just in time for the Bunbury Big Weekender and when the sun is shining!

If you’re in town for the footy, the food, the music or just soaking up a big weekend in Bunbury, add the Wildlife Park to your plans. Our animals would love to see you.

See you Saturday! ☀️

🌿 Bunbury Wildlife Park - Reopening Update 🌿
The good news - our animals are all safe and the Park sustained minimal damage from the storm 🦉🦘

The not-so-great news - it's a big clean-up job out there. There's a lot of debris and fallen branches throughout the Park, and our team will be working hard over the next couple of days to get everything cleared and safe for visitors.

We'll also have an arborist coming through next week to check on our beautiful trees.

The Park will remain closed tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday, and we're aiming to reopen on Thursday.

🐢 Keep an eye out for stranded turtles 🐢

Our friends at the Dolphin Discovery Centre have let us know that last night's wild weather may wash marine turtles ashore along South West beaches. Their Marine Turtle Rehabilitation Team has already responded to the first stranded turtle of the season this morning.

If you're out walking the coastline over the coming days, please keep your eyes open. If you find a stranded turtle:
🐢 Gently pick it up with one hand on either side of the shell
🐢 Place it on a damp towel in an open box or container
🐢 Do NOT put it back in the water
🐢 Do NOT cover it with towels or blankets
🐢 Call for help immediately
📞 Dolphin Discovery Centre (8am to 3pm daily): 9791 3088
📞 DBCA Wildcare Helpline: 9474 9055

Head over to the Dolphin Discovery Centre's page for the full details, and please share to help spread the word.

Thanks for your patience - we can't wait to welcome you back 💛

🌧️ Bunbury Wildlife Park - Closed today 🌧️
With severe weather hanging around, we've made the call to close the Wildlife Park to keep our visitors, staff and animals safe.

Our keepers are on site making sure all our residents are secure and comfortable - they're in good hands! 🦘🦉

Please stay safe out there, look after each other, and we'll see you back at the park once the weather clears.

Take care, Bunbury 💛

What a fantastic day of learning and teamwork for the team at Bunbury Wildlife Park! 🦜✨

On Monday 25 May 2026, our dedicated keeper team participated in an exciting full-day workshop with Parrot Life Behaviour Training, presented by renowned parrot behaviour consultant Ebony.

The hands-on training focused on strengthening the bond between keepers and birds through positive behaviour training, enrichment and communication techniques, all designed to help us provide the very best care possible for our feathered residents.

The highlight of the day? Putting newly learned skills into practice with our beautiful resident macaws, Kotu and Maui, right inside their enclosure! 💙💛

It was an incredibly valuable and rewarding professional development opportunity, and our team walked away inspired, empowered and even more passionate about animal welfare and enrichment.

✨ Target Training in Action ✨

Keeper Mel has been working with one of our adorable Squirrel Gliders using target training, a positive reinforcement technique that helps build trust and confidence 💚

If you listen closely, you’ll hear the click of the clicker! This sound lets the Squirrel Glider know it has performed the correct behaviour and that a tasty reward is on the way… in this case, sweet nectar, one of their favourites 🍯

Training sessions like this are a fantastic form of enrichment, keeping our animals mentally stimulated and engaged while also helping our keepers work closely with them for their health and wellbeing. Through this training, keepers can safely observe, handle and perform health checks with less stress for the animal.

Building trust, encouraging natural behaviours and supporting animal wellbeing, all one click at a time ✨
