🔊 BEEP… BEEP… BEEP… 🔊

The two most common reactions to a smoke alarm:

😴 “Why is it doing this at 3am?!”

😬 “I’ll change that battery tomorrow…”

Tomorrow is National Smoke Alarm Day, so let’s beat the 3am beep!

✅ Press the test button
✅ Check the battery
✅ Make sure it’s working

Because while the beep might be annoying…

🚨 Working smoke alarms save lives.

AFAC News has released the Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for winter 2026. The outlook suggests an earlier start to the bushfire season this year. We are likely to see a warmer and drier winter across Victoria. However, winter remains a lower-risk period for bushfires.

While bushfire risk may be low, house fires and escaped burn-offs are more common at this time of the year. Now is the time to check that your smoke alarms are working and practise your home evacuation plan. Always register your burn-off (firepermits.vic.gov.au), keep an eye on the weather conditions and never leave a fire unattended.

Now is a great time to start preparing your property for the next bushfire season. For tips, visit the CFA website: cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/how-to-prepare-your-property.

Last night some of our team visited ESTA 000 to see firsthand how an emergency call for fire is received and coordinated through to the dispatch of volunteers, trucks and resources. 🚒📞

A fantastic opportunity to build our understanding of emergency response coordination and keep current with the systems that support our communities in times of need.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the visit happen and to the ESTA staff who generously shared their knowledge and experience with our team. 👏

📸 Stock photo used because we were so excited to be there, we forgot to capture the moment! 😅

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate the many people who keep Bullengarook CFA running strong. 🚒

From maintaining trucks and equipment, organising the station, administration, training, fundraising and community events, to supporting emergency responses behind the scenes — every role matters and every volunteer makes a difference.

We also thank our operational firefighters who help protect and support our community when emergencies happen.

We recently received this lovely feedback from a family looking to move to the area:

“…we love seeing how much your brigade looks like a community one…I love my current brigade and so I’m keen to find another brigade that is down to earth and about the community.”

That community spirit is what Bullengarook CFA is all about.

Interested in volunteering?
Come down Sunday mornings from 9.30am to meet some of the team and see what Sunday training looks and sounds like. You’re also welcome to message us to arrange a time for a cuppa ☕ and chat. ❤️
