We're reaching out because we know you have experienced art in East Gippsland before and you likely already know how important arts and culture are to shaping our region.

We're developing our first Public Art Policy, and we'd love to know your perspective. Public art plays a powerful role in creating places we feel proud of - places that reflect who we are and how we welcome others.

Weโ€™d like to hear what public art means to you, where you think it could make the biggest impact, and how it can reflect the stories, identity, and character of East Gippsland.

Public art takes many forms, and your insights will help shape a clear and practical approach to how itโ€™s supported, planned, and delivered across our region.

We encourage you to take a few moments to have your say and help guide a policy that reflects what matters most to our community.

LINE DANCING IN BUCHAN NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT ๐Ÿค

Our weekly Line Dancing group has been a lot of fun, with a great group of people coming along each week, but we currently need a few more participants to keep the classes running weekly.

At the moment, numbers are averaging around 6โ€“7 people, and we need about 10 each week to help cover the cost of our teacher. Like many of our activities, our instructors travel quite a distance to support local classes.

If numbers donโ€™t improve by the end of May, classes may move to only being held monthly instead of weekly.

So if youโ€™ve been thinking about giving it a go, now is the perfect time!

No experience needed, just come along for some fun, music, movement, and a few laughs.

Bring a friend, neighbour, partner, or family member and help us keep this activity going in Buchan.

Even coming along occasionally can help make a difference.

Tonight at the Buchan Hall. All welcome.

You donโ€™t have to love AI to learn about it.

AI is becoming part of everyday life โ€” from internet searches and phones to banking, customer service and online forms.
This session is not about replacing people or promoting technology blindly. Itโ€™s about helping local residents understand what AI is, how it is already being used, and how to use it safely and confidently for simple everyday tasks.

Whether you are curious, cautious, or just want to know what everyone is talking about, this beginner-friendly information session is designed to be practical, relaxed and non-technical.

Time running out to recognise East Gippslandโ€™s local heroes

With National Volunteer Week kicking off on Monday May 18, East Gippsland Shire Council is issuing a final call to residents: donโ€™t miss the chance to see your local legends recognised on the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll.

The deadline to have nominees inducted and celebrated as part of the 2026 East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll is Friday 15 May.

Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said now is the time for the community to help shine a light on the people who give so much of themselves to others.
โ€œAcross East Gippsland, there are thousands of people who give their time, energy and compassion without ever expecting recognition,โ€ Cr Ashworth said.
โ€œThey are the people running local sporting clubs, supporting community groups, protecting our environment, helping neighbours in times of crisis, and ensuring our emergency services are ready when they are needed most.
โ€œThese volunteers are the heart of our communities, and this is an opportunity to publicly thank them for the contribution they make to life in East Gippsland.โ€
East Gippsland has a strong culture of volunteering, with 19.2 per cent of residents actively volunteering โ€“ significantly higher than the regional Victorian average.
Cr Ashworth said National Volunteer Week was the perfect time to celebrate the people whose efforts often happen behind the scenes.
โ€œMany volunteers never seek recognition, but their impact is felt right across our region every single day,โ€ she said.
โ€œA nomination only takes a few minutes, but it can mean so much to someone who has dedicated years of service to supporting others and strengthening their community.
โ€œIf someone in your town or community comes to mind, donโ€™t wait โ€“ nominate them before the deadline.โ€
National Volunteer Week runs from 18โ€“24 May 2026. Make sure your local volunteer is part of the celebration!
You can submit a nomination at any Council Customer Service Centre, or at eastgippsland.vic.gov.au at or on (03) 5153 9500.
