Bruce Rock Community Resource Centre Our History

IN THE BEGINNING...

The Bruce Rock Community Resource Centre (Inc) started its life as the Bruce Rock Telecentre (Inc) on 23 February 1998.

The Bruce Rock Community Resource Centre is Bruce Rock's hub for tourism, photocopying, printing, photograph editing, community event organisation and so much more! It started with one employee - the coordinator in the Shire Office. It then moved to the old Bankwest building at 40 Johnson Street with a desk, a chair, a computer and a new coordinator. With grant money from the State Government and

LotteryWest, the building was fitted out with equipment to generate an income. The local paper, The Rock Review, moved in as well and has been produced with the help of volunteers at the centre ever since. In August 1998, the Telecentre expanded by adding a conference room out the back. March 1999 saw the first trainee for the Telecentre, We have at least one trainee ever since. AND WE GROW...

When the banks left town, the Shire CEO approached several businesses in the main street with a view to opening a Westpac InStore. Income earned from the InStore enabled the centre to continue to employ a trainee and an additional staff member to work in the Bank. Commissions from the InStore have grown over the years, allowing us to subsidise the use of the centre by community members and also help the Telecentre to keep its costs low. AND GROW...

The Telecentre needed to expand again and with a vacant building next door, work began to refurbish it to make it part of the Telecentre. On 14 July 2000, Farrall's Arcade was officially opened. TO BECOME THE CENTRE WE ARE TODAY. On 10 May 2010, the Bruce Rock Telecentre (Inc) changed its name to the Bruce Rock Community Resource Centre (Inc) as part of the State Government's Royalties for Regions program, and the rebranding of the WA Telecentre Group. This initiative is to put funding back into the rural regions of Western Australia and has provided us with much need income to help provide various services to the Bruce Rock community.

With the long weekend approaching, we’re reminding everyone to take extra care on our Wheatbelt roads.

🚓 Bruce Rock Police – Long Weekend Road Safety 🚨
With the long weekend approaching, we’re reminding everyone to take extra care on our Wheatbelt roads.

📊 The reality in our region:
• In the Wheatbelt, 1 in 4 crashes results in death or serious injury
• 72% of serious crashes occur on 110 km/h roads
• Fatigue, speed and inattention are among the biggest factors in serious crashes

🚗 What this means for you:
Long weekends bring more traffic, longer trips, and more time on high-speed roads — all things that increase the consequences when something goes wrong.
We also know from previous holiday periods that distraction and alcohol significantly increase the likelihood of being killed or seriously injured

✅ Our message is simple:
• Slow down and drive to the conditions
• Take regular breaks — fatigue kills
• Stay off your phone
• Don’t drink and drive

👮‍♂️ You will see an increased police presence across the district this long weekend.
We’re not out to ruin your plans — we’re out to make sure everyone gets home safely.
Every crash in the Wheatbelt has a higher chance of ending badly — and every person we lose is someone’s family, friend, or mate. Please look after yourself and each other so everyone gets home.
