Far West Local Health District The Far West LHD serves a population of about 29,184 people across an area covering 194,949 square km The Far West LHD is one of the smallest LHD’s in NSW.

The Far West Local Health District (LHD) is a NSW Government organisation and has a vision “Excellence in Rural and Remote Health” and its mission is “Enabling health in our communities”. The Far West LHD consists of eight public health facilities:

o Broken Hill Health Service
o Balranald Multipurpose Service
o Wilcannia Multipurpose Service
o Wentworth Health Service
o Ivanhoe Health Service
o Menindee Health Service
o Tibooburra Health Service
o White Cliffs Health Service. The Far West LHD also includes the Family and Child Health Centre (Broken Hill) and Dareton Primary Care & Community Health Service, together with a number of other facilities including mental health and aged care facilities. It serves a dispersed population of approximately 30,009 people and covers one of the largest geographical areas (194,949 square kilometres). It has a population with the highest proportion of Aboriginal people in the State.

Raise It is a simple process available in NSW public hospitals and health services to support you to raise concerns about your or your loved one’s condition getting worse.

👉🏼 When you call the Raise It line, you will confirm your location with the service line.
👉🏼 For all Far West NSW locations, your call will be answered by our Broken Hill switchboard who will confirm all of your details as a priority call.
👉🏼 You will then speak with a senior member of our Broken Hill team who will respond to your concerns and ensure you receive appropriate review.

An INCREDIBLE day ⚡

We might have been playing around today, but our team will always take you seriously if you ask "could it be sepsis?".

You know yourself or your loved one best.

If you’re worried you or a loved one’s condition is getting worse, follow the Raise It process.

Here’s how to get help fast if you are in a hospital or health service:

1️⃣Talk: Start by talking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.

2️⃣Ask: Still concerned? Ask the nurse or midwife in charge for a clinical review.

3️⃣Call: If you are still worried, call NSW Health Raise It on 1800 777 333. Your call will be answered by someone in Far West LHD and a senior health worker in Far West LHD will respond.

Sometimes your superpower is just being you 💪⚡

If someone you care about is unwell, you know them best. If they're getting worse, trust your instincts and raise it with their healthcare team.

Sepsis can develop when the body has an extreme response to an infection and can become life-threatening quickly. Knowing the signs, speaking up and acting early can make a difference.

Applications for the 2027 Aboriginal Allied Health Cadetship are now open for eligible Aboriginal students in their final two years of study.

Gain paid, hands-on experience, cultural support and mentorship while you study.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to build skills, gain practical experience, and grow their career within NSW Health.

Eligibility includes:
🟡 be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and
🟡 identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and
🟡 be enrolled in the final two years of full-time study in an eligible allied health profession* at a university located in NSW that leads to professional registration, or eligibility for membership, as an allied health professional with a relevant professional association, and
🟡 be a resident of NSW.

This month we launched our new Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Cadetship program scrubs, featuring artwork by local Ngyiampaa artist Brady Prescott 💛🖤❤️

The project was driven by our Cadets as a way to proudly represent their journey, celebrate Aboriginal culture and help make the program more visible across our health service and community.

Program graduate and Registered Nurse Justin Wonson came up with the idea to help identify cadets within the workplace, and create culturally welcoming environments for consumers and other staff.

Through a collaborative process in the LHD involving Aboriginal Health and Community Relations Directorate, Executive Nursing and Midwifery Directorate, Centre for Aboriginal Health, MoH Nursing and Midwifery Department (NAMO), HealthShare, Broken Hill Aboriginal Community Working Party, and the cadets themselves, an artwork was commissioned to form the design of a dedicated scrub top.

We are incredibly proud of the outcome and look forward to seeing these uniforms worn with pride around our facilities across Far West.
