Knees down for Sepsis Awareness! 🩷🖤

Our midwives took on Ryan’s Race for Sepsis — and let’s just say… the competitive spirit was REAL! 😂

A huge thank you to Jess Lines for continuing to raise awareness and keep Ryan’s story and the importance of sepsis awareness at the forefront. 🩷 Your ongoing advocacy is making a difference.

And thank you to Smooth Beauty & Wellness for the challenge and for getting local businesses involved in such a fun and meaningful way! 🩷

We raced, we laughed, we fell over… and we may have sacrificed our knees for the cause! 😂

If your midwife seems a little slower around the ward or birth room this week… please be patient — we have bruised knees! 😂🩷

All for a good cause. 🩷

For the dads who are celebrating their first Father’s Day… 💙

To the dads learning how to hold a tiny person, change a nappy with one hand and settle a baby at 3am.

To the dads figuring it out as they go, carrying the bags, making the coffees and getting very good at baby cuddles.

For the sleepy mornings, the tiny fingers, the first smiles and all the little moments in between.

Happy first Father’s Day to the new dads celebrating today. You’re doing a great job. 💙

We're developing a future-focused Statewide Maternity Services Plan to meet the changing needs of our communities.

The Plan will be grounded in the best available data and importantly, shaped by the insights and experiences of our clinicians and consumers.

The survey is anonymous and only takes a few minutes.

Visit the Have Your Say website to complete the survey. Feedback is open until 20 September 2026: www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/maternity-services

Breastfeeding isn't something you have to figure out alone.

Like any new skill, breastfeeding takes time, patience and support for both you and your baby.

We have many great local services that you can contact for support:
✅ Your midwife or the maternity ward
✅ Your Child and Family Health Nurse
✅ Tresillian Broken Hill
✅ Your GP or healthcare provider
✅ Your support network - this might be family, friends or other parents you meet through parenting groups

Families can also phone the Australian Breastfeeding Association's Breastfeeding Helpline on 1800 686 268 24 hours, every day of the week.

Whether you have a quick question, need some reassurance, or you're finding feeding challenging, help is always available to you.

Always remember that you don't have to wait until things feel unmanageable to reach out 🩷

Breastfeeding is not only great for your baby's health - Mums gain a lot from it too in both the short and long term!

Importantly, mothers who have breastfed are shown to have a reduced risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, breast and ovarian cancer over their lifetime.

Research shows that the longer you breastfeed (across all your children), the less risk you face of a range health problems. Every extra month of breastfeeding adds to your protection.

It's World Breastfeeding Week!

Breast milk provides all the nutrition your baby needs for the first six months of life and can give your baby most of their nutrition for the first year of their life and beyond.

When babies are breastfed, especially exclusively and for longer durations, they have a lower risk of a range of health problems.

It is a good idea to start talking about breastfeeding in early pregnancy. Your midwife will discuss feeding with you before your baby is born, and help answer any questions you have.
