Day 3 of Women’s Health week: Rest ✨ You’re allowed to rest before you have symptoms to justify it ✨

Day 3 of Women's Health Week is to rest 😴

Good sleep is one of the most powerful things you can do for your health – and for many women, one of the most difficult to achieve.

But rest goes beyond sleep. It's the moments where you give yourself permission to stop – to lie down, switch off, step outside or simply not be productive for 5 minutes.

Today we're exploring what it looks like to prioritise rest – what's normal with sleep, what's not, when to check in with your doctor, and practical ways to wind down.

Because rest isn't self-indulgent. It's how your body repairs, resets and keeps going.

What does it actually mean to feel "seen" as a carer? Jasmin, our Carer Gateway Program Manager in Brisbane, has her own answer, shaped by her own lived experience as a carer. Swipe through the photos to hear what drives her in this role and what she loves most about the carers she works with.

The Carer Gateway team isn't just in Brisbane. We've got people on the ground right across Queensland, from Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast to Bundaberg and Townsville, and we support mental health carers from any region across the state. Head to the Arafmi website for upcoming activities and groups, or reach out to [email protected] to find your nearest connection point.

Day 2 of Women's Health Week is to move 🏃‍♀️

Being active is not just for people who love the gym. It's for everyone – in all bodies, at all life stages and in whatever form fits your day.

Exercise doesn't have to be intense or structured to make a difference. Regular movement built into everyday life has real benefits for your physical health, mental wellbeing and energy levels.

We know the barriers all too well – time, energy, cost, pain, caring responsibilities and self-doubt. And for women living with disability or chronic illness, being active might come with additional challenges. Today is for all of you.

This week, Team Arafmi headed to Mt Coot-tha for a day of whole-team training. We opened with an Acknowledgement of Country, reflecting on the cultural significance of this land, whose name comes from a local Aboriginal word meaning "place of honey" or "place of wild bees." It's a fitting backdrop for a day built on connection.

That spirit of cross-pollination carried through the day. New team members were introduced and we talked about the exciting year ahead; welcoming new carers, expanding into new regions, and celebrating our 50th year in style.

We were abuzz as we shared insights across our diverse roles and talked about how safety can look different for every person. We up-skilled together with facilitation from Amovita, and experienced Unfold, the living well session carers enjoyed back in July.

When we asked everyone what they love about their role, one theme came through again and again: the people. Who we work with, who we connect with, the good we get to do, and seeing the difference being made in the mental health space. (And yes, our government funding got an honourable mention too 😄)

Can you spot the curlews?!

Sometimes a morning of art and good company is the beginning of something bigger. This carer came along to our Create and Connect session, took a little time out from their everyday, and walked away connected to our Culture Care respite program.

One session. One conversation. A whole new door opened.

If you are caring for someone living with a mental health challenge, you deserve time that is just for you. Our team is here to help make that happen.

📅 Create and Connect meets every third Friday of the month

In many cultures, caring for family is just what you do. It is not always something you talk about, and it is not always something you ask for help with.

But when the weight of it builds, having people around you who truly understand can make all the difference.

Culture Care's monthly connection groups in Nundah, Upper Mount Gravatt and Logan are a space for people from culturally diverse communities to come together, share, and feel a little less alone in what they are carrying.

📅 Nundah, 2nd Tuesday of the month, 9:30am to 12:00pm
📅 Upper Mount Gravatt, 3rd Tuesday of the month, 10:00am to 12:30pm
📅 Logan, 4th Tuesday of the month, 10:00am to 11:30am
