Jump scare 🙀

Pesticides are very harmful to bees and pollinators 💀 always consider alternative nontoxic practices for your plants (after all, they do rely on the necessary pollination from insect life)🪻🌻 if nothing is eating your plants, they're not really part of the ecosystem! 🌏

✨ Happy World Food Day 2025 ✨

"Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future” 🌱

At Indigibee, we believe every little pollination, every native bee we protect, is part of a bigger food story. Without healthy pollinators, our food systems and our future are out of balance. 🍯🐝

Today we celebrate collaboration, resilience, and the deep connection between nature, community, and nourishment. Let’s work hand in hand with farmers, elders, scientists, citizens, to rebuild food systems that are fair, resilient, and rooted in culture and ecology.

If I'd known earlier I would have partied harder and eaten more food! Oh well next year, maybe I can claim it as a day off? Can't come in boss I've got a food coma 😅

🔸 Support local, pollinator-friendly gardening
🔸 Honour Indigenous food wisdom
🔸 Reduce waste, nurture soil
🔸 Protect native bees, they’re vital to our food chain

A beautiful colony successfully rescued! While appearing round or little balls upon closer inspection, Australian stingless bees build hexagonal brood cells, the most mathematically efficient shape for maximising strength and volume while minimising wax usage.

Unlike European honeybees, which build external hexagonal combs for both brood and honey storage, Australian stingless bee species store honey and pollen in small, round wax pots. These spheres create internal hexagons and are naturally efficient for holding liquids and solids and are easy to construct using minimal wax.

When multiple spheres are packed closely together, they naturally arrange themselves in the most space-efficient pattern. Stingless bees create a network of hexagonal patterns at their contact points, creating a hexagonal close-packing structure.

The outer surface still appears round because each pot is an individual unit, but inside the cluster, the points where they touch form a hexagonal grid. Stingless bees do what honeybees do, but in three dimensions!

Indigibee remains independent. We continue to not be members of stingless bee industry associations in any state or territory where we operate. We are committed to community first regenerative practice in protecting, managing, and commercialisation of sovereign pollinators on Country. We will continue to oppose the current extractive practices of the industry and pet traders alike.

Can't go over it, can't go under it… gotta chew through it!

As this leaf has grown across the colony entrance, these girls are having none of it! Stingless bees are expert problem solvers, using their mandibles to chew through obstacles and keep their hive accessible.

Did you know? stingless bees don’t rely solely on their mandibles for defense they also produce sticky resin, to trap invaders and protect their colony!
